employment outcomes. So most important for employability is the disease development, rather than
the exact treatment received, although disease development is greatly dependent on the treatment
received. Infliximab rather than MTX was the main focus of this article, but since the patients were
assessed before and after treatment with both medications, and MTX is evaluated in combination
with infliximab and alone, it still sheds light on the general effect on employability of treating RA
patients with MTX. This article validates that MTX has a positive effect on employment, since the
patients’ employability increased in both groups when treated with MTX.
3.4 Conceptual framework for the current thesis
On the basis of the presented theory, the overview of the literature and Galarraga et al.’s (2006)
study in particular, this section gives an outline of the forthcoming analysis.
The current thesis is based on a hypothesis that is motivated by the hypothesis applied by Galarraga
et al. (2006), which was presented in section 3.1.3. Figure 4 shows the hypothesis for the present
analysis.
