Aug 1646<br />

An Act of Counsell, for paying to the poor people who had suffered by their property being<br />

burnit by the Rebells. The Sum of one Thousand Cross dollars :- in proportion According to<br />

the herndriss, with power to the Magistrates to accertain the valuations.<br />

March 1647<br />

Act of Council, ordaining the weekly Market day being Changed from Saturday to Friday, from<br />

due consideration of the preparation of the Lords day:- by the Markets being formerly keepid<br />

on Saturday – to be commune on Friday the Ninteenth of March 1647.<br />

6 April 1647<br />

The Clerk made report of the proceedings of Parliament :- And delivered to the Council, An<br />

Act in the towns favours for their hurtages and losses:- And an act for 20,000 lib for the<br />

subsistince of poor people.<br />

Item An Act of this Session recommending yr losses to the committee of Estates:-<br />

Item The Commission for trying the Towns lossis, and the report of the Sue losses, which<br />

were all put in the lockit keist in the council House.<br />

28 Oct 1647<br />

Order of the council, for holding an Admirall Court, to consist of the Magistrates present – and<br />

Old – And Ordaining the Clerk, to give precepts for Citing any Partie who has Action to<br />

pursue.<br />

19 August 1648<br />

The Council with unanimous consent of the collector and Deacons of Crafts, considering the<br />

great burden contracted for the necessities of the Burgh, and also the Monthly Maintenance –<br />

with the great decay of Trade & Merchandize – resolved that the most equal and insincille<br />

way of providing Relief for the same, would be, in laying on a Trade imposition on all drink,<br />

brewen, and Drunkin by the Inhabitants, of twa penies on every pint of Ale, - and for that<br />

effect, the price of the Ale to be proportionally Augmented – And that the Committee of<br />

Estates of Parliament should be Suplicate for their Approbation.<br />

21 Sepr 1648<br />

Letter produced form the Committee of Estates at Stirling, requiring the Town being put in ane<br />

posture of Defence – And to acknowledge No other Committee but them – to which the<br />

Council resolved to return No Answer.<br />

Vigisimo Octavo Septembris 1648<br />

Mr Geo. Hallyburton made protestation, that he could Not be chosen Ane Baillie, because, he<br />

was no Merchand Vintner – which the Council repelled – in respect of the constant practice of<br />

this Burgh, who had always chose persons of Merchands, Vintinars , they being Otherways<br />

qualified and Meet, - And that they have the liberty of Trading when they please.<br />

Ultimo Octobris 1648<br />

Nomination by the council, of two Members thereof, to be Commissioners at the Parliament<br />

ensueing – And to relieve each other Monthly – also ordains a letter to be wrote to the<br />

Committee of Estates, declaring their election and constant affection to the Covenants.<br />
