would offer therefore – That thereafter John Rollo offered Ten pounds ten shillings for a<br />

Nineteen years tack from and after Michaelmas last which the council having Considered<br />

Appoint the Tack to be extended with this proviso that if the said John Rollo Build any Houses<br />

on the Land sett he shall not have a liberty of carrying away nor demolishing the same at the<br />

Expiration of the Tack.<br />

The Convener and Deacons of crafts being present the Convr for himself and in name of the<br />

Trades gave into the Council a paper containing their opinion as to the Muir of Craigie &c as<br />

follows – <strong>Dundee</strong> 3d November 1762 Years, The Convr and Nine Deacons of the Trades of<br />

<strong>Dundee</strong> having laid before them two Acts of the Town Council – the One dated the 24 Oct<br />

1676 – the other dated the 26 February 1704 – Relative to the Rood Yards, Oliver’s Croft,<br />

Quarel Holes And the Moor of Craigie the said Trades understand that the papers therin<br />

prepared were never carried into execution. Whereof the Trades propose that Craigie Should<br />

be obliged Instantly to produce his title to the places above mentioned and particularly to the<br />

Moore of Craige – And if he has none that the Town should instantly take possession of the<br />

same by setting these grounds to tennants. And uplifting the Rents and thus Craigie should<br />

be Pursued for the bygone Rents But in respect that he had been in considerable expense in<br />

the improvement of the Muir which they suppose he is remembered for Ere now The Trades<br />

propose that if Craigie would peaceably give up the possession of the Muir to pass from any<br />

prosecution for payment of the Bygone Rents – The Council having Considered the same<br />

appoint the 18 th Instant to meet with Craigie And the Trades in the Gild Hall to Consider of the<br />

matter and Appoints the Clerk to intimate the same to Craigie by Letter<br />

The Council The Trades and Craigie having had a Cummuning as to their Respective rights to<br />

the Muir of Craigie they appointed Thursday (16 Decr) to meet in the council House to<br />

Consider in what way they will Settle the Matter.<br />

The Provost intimated that some persons have got access to the Council Records and therin<br />

falsified some of the Minutes – Therefore and for his own Vindication it was necessary the<br />

Same Should be properly inquired into (herein precognitions were Ordered to be taken from<br />

the Town Clerk his Servants And Others who had occasion to be about the Office) – And<br />

Baillies Patrick and George Maxwell Appointed to make the Enquiry – And the Council to<br />

meet at 2 o’clock that Afternoon.<br />

Esdemdee<br />

Baillie Patrick and George Maxwell reported that in terms of the Appointment of the Council<br />

they had taken precognitions as to the Affair of Provost George Yeamans falsifying the<br />

Minutes of the Council which Precognition they produced in Council. The Meeting<br />

Recommended to the Provost to send by post to Edinburgh a full extract thereof to present<br />

the same by a Summary Complaint to the Court of Session.<br />

Diligence granted by their Lordships agst Provost Yeaman for Falsifying the Minutes of<br />

Council And Baillie Geo Ramsay ordered to Edinburgh to undergo Examination &c &c.<br />

Pro George Yeaman Acknowledges by letter to Mr McEwan the Towns Agent his having<br />

committed the alegian agst him Namely that he was urged from Edinb to send over Full<br />

Extracts of the Council of <strong>Dundee</strong> Minutes concerning the dispute with the Kirk Session and<br />

having Called at Mr Duncans frequently for the Same and being put off. That Having received<br />

Another pressing letter on the Subject And being something flustered with liquer he went up<br />

to the office And inserted with Mr Duncan to have the Extracts And for dispatch he dictate<br />
