carried out. Deviat<strong>in</strong>g contractual conditions <strong>for</strong> apprentices may also be set out <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>dividual subject curricula.<br />

Each half-year, the school shall prepare a written summary of the education received by<br />

the pupil and an assessment of the pupil’s development. The school shall send this<br />

summary and the assessment to the pupil or to the pupil’s parentse pupil and to the<br />

municipality or county authority.<br />

Section 5-6. <strong>Education</strong>al and psychological counsell<strong>in</strong>g service<br />

Each municipality and county authority shall provide an educational and psychological<br />

counsell<strong>in</strong>g service. The educational and psychological counsell<strong>in</strong>g service <strong>in</strong> a<br />

municipality may be organised <strong>in</strong> coollaboration with other municipalities or with the<br />

county authority.<br />

The service shall assist the school <strong>in</strong> work on competence enhancement and<br />

organisational development <strong>in</strong> order to improve the adaptation of the education <strong>for</strong> pupils<br />

with special needs. The educational and psychological counsell<strong>in</strong>g service shall ensure<br />

that expert assessments are prepared where this is required by the <strong>Act</strong>. The M<strong>in</strong>istry may<br />

issue regulations concern<strong>in</strong>g the other responsibilities of the service.<br />

Section 5-7. Special educational assistance <strong>for</strong> children under compulsory school age<br />

Children under compulsory school age with a specific need <strong>for</strong> special educational<br />

assistance, have the right to such assistance. The assistance shall <strong>in</strong>clude an offer of the<br />

provision of advice <strong>for</strong> parents. The assistance may be attached to k<strong>in</strong>dergartens, schools,<br />

social and medical <strong>in</strong>stitutions, etc., or be organised as separate measures. The<br />

assistance may also be provided by the educational and psychological counsell<strong>in</strong>g service<br />

or by another expert body.<br />

For special educational assistance section 5-4, second and third paragraph of the <strong>Act</strong><br />

apply. Section 5-5, second paragraph of the <strong>Act</strong> applies <strong>in</strong>sofar as it is applicable.<br />

Section 5-8. Health services<br />

The M<strong>in</strong>istry may issue regulations concern<strong>in</strong>g medical supervision and assistance <strong>for</strong><br />

pupils who receive special education.<br />

Section 5-9. The duty of the State to ensure the availability of teach<strong>in</strong>g aids<br />

The M<strong>in</strong>istry shall ensure that textbooks and other teach<strong>in</strong>g aids are prepared <strong>for</strong> special<br />

education.<br />

Chapter 6. Sami education<br />

Section 6-1. Def<strong>in</strong>itions<br />

For the purposes of the present <strong>Act</strong>, the follow<strong>in</strong>g def<strong>in</strong>itions shall apply:
