SUMMER 2003
working within television as developer and producer
at DR and Zulu, showed clips, talked
about reality shows, entertainment, career possibilities
after the EFC and on how to develop
ideas. Students were invited to pitch ideas and
receive instant feedback.
Special events
In September the Glass Museum hosted an
event called “the Creative Process” – a debate
between film director CHRISTIAN BRAAD
THOMSEN and professor of mathematics
HOLGER BECH NIELSEN followed by Ed
Harris’s film “Pollock”. The very same day a
group of Scandinavian journalists visited the
school, had a tour around the premises and finally
enjoyed the companionship of film director
NILS MALMROS and
his “Århus by Night”.
In October we hosted a political
round table conference
with the agenda “The New
Europe” with culture and
film as the overall topics. The
principal put the EFC into
this context, member of parliament
LARS BARFOED
gave his view on conservative
cultural policy, the new
manager of ‘Filmby Århus’
SØREN POULSEN shed
light on this new initiative
and two young filmmakers
KARSTEN and CHRIS-
TIAN KORSAGER MUD,
both from DR, talked about
being young in this demanding
business. The afternoon
was ended by the screening
of the Swedish comedy “Kops”.
Later the same month we hosted the premiere
of “A Happy Life”, produced by Potemkin in
Århus and in which quite a few former EFCstudents
had participated.
In November it was time for students to shake
their hips to tunes brought in from the outside.
Two bands from “the Rhythmic High School”
– “Funky Foxes” and “Mo Fos” interpreted old
classics and new hits galore. A couple of days
later we were invaded by an Albanian delegation
headed by ambassador QEMAL MINX-
HOZI and consul GENC PERMETI. We all
had Albanian food, watched Albanian films and
had an insight view of what Albania is today.
Sunday the 17th of January we shall never forget.
More than 500 people from the outside
passed through the gates. In the morning the
Glass Museum hosted a seminar for 157 glass
artists and architects followed by a lunch in
Dining Hall. I the afternoon the renowned harmony
orchestra “Tonica” (60 musicians) gave a
New Year’s concert, also in Big Bear, in front
of an enthusiastic full house with a very diverse
programme consisting of classic and more common
pieces. Special guest star was SUSANNE
ELMARK from the Royal Danish Opera. Add
to the logistics a champagne break, a “musical
warming up session” also in Dining hall and
still 108 students to care for at the same time
and you will have an impression of the day (see
also p. 8).
Inspired by former student HELLE WINDEL-
ØV’s successful documentary “El Amor de Don
Robaina” the school hosted a Cuban Night in
February with a double feature consisting of
Helle’s film and Oliver Stone’s “Commandante”.
Almost a hundred people turned up from
down town Ebeltoft enjoying both the films
