hundred years time. To mark the occasion with appropriate
solemnity, a magnificent seven part women’s choir called
Simili (which ten years ago had provided a similar service
for the College’s official inauguration) broke into song as
the Mayor patted down the final spadeful of earth.
Singing of a different kind came later: Ulla Hjorth Nielsen’s’s
new collection of songs from the movies (Toner fra Filmen,
edition Wilhelm Hansen) was given an official “christening”
by the editor herself who snazzily sang a couple of
numbers accompanied by ex-student Laura Hypponen on
the piano. Music, in general, was part of the flavour of the
afternoon, giving the occasion lift, rhythm and pace: local
jazz quartet XYZ had been “on duty” since early in the day,
welcoming the guests and, hours later, sending them happily
on their way.
