To mark the occasion with appropriate solemnity, a magnificent seven part women’s choir called Simili (which ten years ago had provided a similar service for the <strong>College</strong>’s official inauguration) broke into song as the Mayor patted down the final spadeful of earth. Singing of a different kind came later: Ulla Hjorth Nielsen’s’s new collection of songs from the movies (Toner fra <strong>Film</strong>en, edition Wilhelm Hansen) was given an official “christening” by the editor herself who snazzily sang a couple of numbers accompanied by ex-student Laura Hypponen on the piano. Music, in general, was part of the flavour of the afternoon, giving the occasion lift, rhythm and pace: local jazz quartet XYZ had been “on duty” since early in the day, welcoming the guests and, hours later, sending them happily on their way. During the weekend, guests from abroad were given the chance to see two major contemporary Danish films on excellent subtitled festival prints: Lars von Trier’s latest work Dogville, and another beautiful movie - controversial in a different way - At kende sandheden/Facing the Truth, directed by our newest board member Nils Malmros. This was screened along with Martin Strange’s Oscar-winning short Der er en yndigt Man/ translation (shown in the presence of its director) : highlights among literally scores of movies that were shown the space of the Reunion’s three days from Thursday to Saturday.
