Stichting Europees Jeugd Parlement Nederland<br />

The National Committee of the <strong>European</strong><br />

<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Parliament</strong> in The Netherlands<br />

Created in 1998, the Stichting Europees Jeugd Parlement is the official Dutch National Committee<br />

of the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Parliament</strong>. In addition to an annual National Selection Conference,<br />

the Committee organises several Preliminary Selection Conferences per year and supports a strong<br />

network of alumni through unofficial alumni get-togethers and think tanks on the future of the<br />

organisation. In <strong>2009</strong>, the first ever International Forum in the Netherlands was organised in Rotterdam.<br />

Each year, EYP The Netherlands reaches out to more than 200 young Dutch people.<br />

Activities in <strong>2009</strong><br />

9th Dutch National Selection Conference<br />

Between January 30 - February 2, approximately 90 EYPers attended this Conference and completed<br />

a programme on team building and committee work as well as a general assembly in the<br />

Town Hall of Amsterdam, as well as various other activities, such as Eurovillage, that enabled all<br />

the participants to get a taste of EYP’s rich cultural dimension. In light of the Czech EU Presidency,<br />

Petr Mareš (Ambassador of the Czech Republic in The Netherlands) addressed the General<br />

Assembly of the National Session. Additionally, Ronald Holzhacker (Head of Studies, Social<br />

Sciences, Amsterdam University College) came to speak at the Opening of the GA.<br />

1st Dutch North Sea Regional Forum<br />

At this centrepiece event of EYP The Netherlands held in Rotterdam from May 4 - 10, over 120<br />

delegates and officials from all over Europe gathered for an intensive week under the theme of<br />

«Future challenges for Young People». The session was honoured by the participation of several<br />

prominent International and Dutch guests and hosted its events at prestigious venues such as the<br />

Town Hall of Rotterdam and the Beurs World Trade Center Rotterdam.<br />
