12 Historically, marine sedimentation took place continuously throughout the Silurian- Devonian and Permian Periods. Nevertheless, the large breaks can be observed due to the uplifting of the depositional basins during the Mesozoic Era by Triassic granite intrusions. Some mineral resources had been discovered and exploited since the last century, and most of them are related to granite intrusions and subsequent hydrothermal activities. The Tham Ta Lu and La Bu base metal sulphide and carbonate mineralization are the most well known mineral resources produced from the Bannang Sta area for many years. Other minerals are tin, aggregates, barite, limestone, and dimension stone. Most of which were produced for many years. General succession of the rock units on the Thai side of the Transect area is summarised in Figure 5 and the simplified geological correlation as compared to the geology of the southern Thailand is summarised in Figure 6. Simplified geological correlation of the rock units in the Pengkalan Hulu-Betong Transect area is summarised in Figure 7.
