BP Portrait Award 2012
The BP Portrait Award showcases the very best in con-
temporary portrait painting from around the world.
For thirty-three years the exhibition has presented
outstanding and innovative new work in a variety of
styles and approaches, and it continues to be a high-
light of the annual art calendar. The National Portrait
Gallery will display the winner of the £25,000 prize –
due to be selected in June – as well as a selection of the
top runners up.

Classic Open Air Festival 2012
Every summer since 1992, the Gendarmenmarkt
square in the heart of Berlin has been transformed into
a spectacular backdrop for the Classic Open Air Festi-
val - a series of concerts which attracts crowds from
the world over. Since its inception, the festival has at-
tracted abaout 640,000 people to 112 concerts, with a
musical range covering everything from opera, operet-
ta and stage musicals, to pop classics, soul, swing and
jazz - and much in between.
