Highlights OF THE YEAR
CONNECT, the most sophisticated tool integrating
information and online technologies that exists
today, is already available in many Fiat Auto cars
and will gradually be installed in all new models
produced by the Group. CONNECT provides access
to a vast array of functions and services. The latter
are packaged and distributed by Targasys in
cooperation with prestigious international partners.
The Fiat Stilo made its
worldwide debut in
September in Barcelona,
Spain. Its two versions —
three- and five-door —
present significant
differences in styling,
performance and size.
Both share a wealth of
leading-edge electronic
and online systems.
In April, Toro Assicurazioni
completed the purchase of Lloyd
Italico Assicurazioni and Lloyd
Fiat, Edf, Tassara, Intesa BCI,
Italico Vita, thereby expanding its
national network to about 175
The CX New Holland combine harvester, which CNH Global introduced
tender offers for Montedison
in 2001, received accolades throughout Europe. It has won awards
and Edison. The purpose of
at the most important international industry shows and has been
these transactions was to play
extremely well received by customers. CNH Global made further
a leading role in the energy
progress in implementing its strategy of expansion in the top segment
market, which is currently
of the construction equipment market by forging an alliance with
being deregulated and is
Kobe Steel and Kobelco Construction Machinery Co.
expected to show sustained growth during
the years to come. The merger of the
electric power and natural gas operations
of Edison, Sondel and Fiat Energia into a
single company and the divestiture of
Montedison’s non-energy assets, coupled
with the pursuit of additional growth
through acquisitions and capital
expenditures, will further
strengthen Italenergia’s
position (through its new
Edison subsidiary) as the
leading private-sector
The agreement transferring full
energy producer in Italy.
ownership of Irisbus to Iveco was
signed in October. Irisbus was created
in 1999 by Iveco and Renault of France
as a 50-50 joint venture to which the
two partners contributed their urban
and long-distance bus manufacturing
operations. The transfer, which will
occur in two stages, will be completed
on December 31, 2002. With 9,500
vehicles sold in 2001, Irisbus
confirmed its position as the leader
in Italy, France and Spain and the
second largest producer in all other
major European markets.
Fiat and IBM created Global Value, a 50-50
joint venture that will operate in the market for
information technology services. Global Value
will allow the two partners to exploit the
considerable expertise they have acquired
during their 50-year collaboration in developing
information technology systems for manufacturing
applications. Global Value provides IT services
to Fiat Group companies and Italian customers
outside the Group, presently representing 30%
of its revenues. It will pursue the goal of helping
the Group’s operations throughout the world to
quickly increase their effectiveness and efficiency
and, over the medium term, of broadening its
activities in the non-captive Italian market, with
a target set at 50% of its revenues.
At times, staying on top
can be harder than
getting there. That’s
why Ferrari’s Chairman,
Luca Cordero di
Montezemolo, used his
proven leadership skills
to motivate the Ferrari
racing team to surpass
the triumphs achieved in 2000. Jean Todt,
Schumacher, Barrichello and the entire
Ferrari racing organization responded to
his encouragement by repeating the twin
successes of the previous year. By August
2001, a full four races before the end of
the season, they had already won both
the World Constructors’ Championship
and the World Drivers’ Championship.
