Still happier are those who hear the word of God and keep it!

The Sign of Jonah

NARRATOR.
The crowds got even bigger and some of the Scribes and Pharisees spoke up:
SCRIBES/PHARISEES.
Master, we would like to see a sign from you.
JESUS.
It is an evil and unfaithful generation that asks for a sign. The only sign it will be given is the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as
Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. For as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three
days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth. On Judgement day the men of Nineveh will stand up with
this generation and condemn it, because when Jonah preached they repented; and there is something greater than Jonah here. On
Judgement day, the Queen of the South will rise up with the men of this generation and condemn them. For she came from the ends of
the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and there is something greater than Solomon here.

The Parable of the Lamp

JESUS.
No one lights a lamp and puts it in some hidden place or under a measuring cup, but places it in a lamp-stand so that people that come
in may see the light. The lamp of the body is the eye. When your eye is clear, your whole body too is filled with light; but when it is
diseased your body too will be filled with darkness. See to it then that the light which is inside you is not darkness. If therefore, your
whole body is filled with light, with no trace of darkness, the whole will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle gives
you light.

The Pharisees and the Lawyers Attacked
NARRATOR.
When he had just finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to have dinner with him. He went in and sat down at the table to eat. The
Pharisee saw this and was surprised that he had not first washed before dinner. The Lord said to him:
