Appendix to <strong>College</strong> Regulation 15<br />

1. OFFENCES<br />

W<strong>here</strong> the victim <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fence committed, the student concerned or anyone else<br />

wishes to bring the matter to the attention <strong>of</strong> the police, normally formal proceedings<br />

will not be taken within the <strong>College</strong> until it is known whether or not the police intend to<br />

prosecute. However, even if the Police do become involved it may be necessary for the<br />

<strong>College</strong> to take disciplinary action.<br />

For the purposes <strong>of</strong> this Ordinance, <strong>of</strong>fences are divided into two categories, minor and<br />

major. The Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>College</strong> shall determine whether an <strong>of</strong>fence or class <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fence is<br />

minor or major.<br />

Any student, who is alleged to have committed an <strong>of</strong>fence which is determined to be<br />

minor, shall have the matter dealt with by the Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Any student, who is alleged to have committed an <strong>of</strong>fence which is determined to be<br />

major, shall have the matter dealt with by the Disciplinary Tribunal.<br />

Any student has the right to choose to be accompanied by his or her Tutor when having<br />

a meeting with the Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>College</strong> in relation to matters detailed in these procedures.<br />

2. (a) COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE FOR DISCIPLINE<br />

The Committee for Discipline shall consist <strong>of</strong> five members <strong>of</strong> the Governing Body,<br />

one designated as Convenor, elected to serve for three years.<br />

(b) COMPOSITION OF THE DISCIPLINARY TRIBUNAL<br />

(i) The Disciplinary Tribunal shall consist <strong>of</strong>:<br />

Three members <strong>of</strong> the Committee for Discipline;<br />

two Tutors, appointed by the Tutorial Committee to hear a particular case;<br />

the Junior President and the President <strong>of</strong> the Middle Combination Room, or their<br />

deputies (who shall be the Vice-President <strong>of</strong> the JCR and the Treasurer <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Middle Combination Room respectively), to serve during their year <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice;<br />

provided that any member <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal may continue to serve after the expiry <strong>of</strong><br />

her/his term <strong>of</strong> service, if he/she is still in residence, until the conclusion <strong>of</strong> a<br />

particular case.<br />

(ii) The Convenor shall convene meetings <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal. Four members shall<br />
