3 Use of GIS with Statistical Analysis
Advantages
- Provides unbiased, objective, timely and statistically sound crop information to
determine crop area and give production forecasts
- Proven system used in other countries (South Africa)
- Could be established relatively quickly
- Could be used to enhance and feed into current the IDEA method (Option 2)
- Potential to harmonise use of this method to cover the East African Region
Disadvantages
- Potentially establishing a parallel system in Ugandan duplicating the UBOS
SSASP service

district level.
