Palynology of Middle Tertiary lacustrine deposits 229
narrow colpi with round ora converge in symmetrical arrangement at the apices. Exine
chagrenate, I f.lm thick.
Measurements: 23 X 25 f.lm in size.
Previous record: Late Oligocene of West Germany (St. Augustin).
Remarks: The single specimen found corresponds in shape, sculpture and structure
with Tricolporopollenites sphaeroideus Takahashi & lux.
Botanical affinity: Unknown.
Tricolporopollenites protensus Takahashi n. comb.
PI. 29, figs. 7 - 8 .
1979 Cupuliferoipollenites protensus Takahashi, Takahashi & Kim, Pa1aeontographica, B,
170, Lfg. 1 - 3, p. 44, pI. 12, figs. I - 7 .
Diagnostic character. Tricolporate pollen grains. Figura ellipsoidal or subprolate to
prolate with pointed or hemispherical polar cap in equatorial view. The three narrow
colpi extend in symmetrical, parallel arrangement towards the poles where they converge.
Pores are meridionally elongated. Exine laevigate or weakly chagrenate,
two-layered, I -1. 5 f.lm thick; ectexine double as thick as endexine.
Measurements: 19-25 f.lm X 14-19 f.lm in size.
Width I length ratio: 0.73-0.76.
Previous record: Midddle Miocene (Yoni}) of Korea.
Remarks: The generic indication Cupuliferoipollenites was made for Korean
specimens with smooth exine and meridionally elongated ora by Takahashi (1979).
This designation is now replaced byTricolporopollenites, because three lalongated ora
are diagnostic features of the genus Cupuliferoipollenites.
Botanical affinity: ? Cupuliferae.
Tricolporopollenites sp. a
PI. 28, fig. 25.
Description: Tricolporate pollen of circular contour in apical sight. The three large
colpi are furnished by a small, rounded ora and connect with the poles. Exine
chgrenate, two-layered, 3 f.lm thick; ectexine three times thicker than endexine.
Measurements: 19 X 22 f.lm in equatorial diameter.
Remarks: Only one specimen was observed.
Botanical affinity: Unknown.
Tricolporopollenites sp. b
PI. 29, fig. 23.
