thick; ectexine tectate or psilate with verrucate processes; endexine somewhat intrabaculate<br />

to smooth; surface <strong>of</strong> exine reticulate COL pattern), finely punctate<br />

within the lumina <strong>of</strong> the reticulum; no. <strong>of</strong> specimen: los 1 - 3 (GN 5323).<br />

Name derivation: sculptus (lat.) = carved.<br />

Remarks: Polyadopollenites sculptus n. sp. is comparable with the following species:<br />

1 ) Polyadopollenites multipartitus Pflug 0953, p. 112, Taf. 15, Fig. 65-66),<br />

polyads: 50 - 80 ,urn in diameter; individual grains: 12 - 25 ,urn in diameter, 12­<br />

26 vesicles; Late Eocene-Early Oligocene, Borken, Germany.<br />

2) Acacia myriosporites Cookson (1954, p. 55, pI 1 , figs. 1, 5 - 8), polyads: circular:<br />

37 - 43 ,urn in diameter; oblong: 37 - 61 ,urn X 35 - 59 ,urn in diameter; individual<br />

grains: 8 -16 vesicles; Miocene-Upper Pliocene, Victoria, Australia.<br />

3) Acacia octosporites Cookson 0954, p. 55, pI. 1, figs. 2 - 4 ), polyads: circular:<br />

21-27 pm in diameter; oblong: 32 X 37 ,urn in diameter; individual grains:<br />

8 vesicles; Late Pliocene, Grange Burn near Hamilton, Victoria, Australia.<br />

Polyadopollenites indecorus n. sp.<br />

PI. 11, figs. 4 - 6; pI. 37, figs. 4 - 7.<br />

Diagnosis: Polyad pollen <strong>of</strong> subcircular to oval outline. Eleven to twelve vesicles forming<br />

a polyad pollen grain. Exine two-layered, l,um thick, laevigate. No germinal<br />

porus visible.<br />

Measurements: Polyads: 37 - 43 ,urn X 32 - 36 ,urn in diameter.
