Treatment<br />

Post menopausal bleeding must be investigated for cancer.<br />

Artificial menopause may be brought about by hystrectomy,<br />

trauma to ovaries by irradiation or deep X- ray exposure of the<br />

pelvis.<br />

Duties of nurse<br />

- Support the patient by proper explanation about<br />

menopause<br />

- If symptoms are severe advice to see the doctor<br />

- Advice about the diet to be low in carbohydrate <strong>and</strong> have<br />

adequate sleep during the night.<br />

12.13 Self examination of the breast<br />

- Ninety percent of breast cancers are found by the woman<br />

or her partner. For this reason it is important that women<br />

underst<strong>and</strong> the importance of examining the breast on a<br />

monthly basis.<br />

- During pregnancy there is no special time of the month<br />

that is best to reform the examination.<br />

- In non pregnant women, 5 days after cessation of<br />

menstruation, it is the optimum time to detect changes.<br />
