- Labour is said to be established with regular painful<br />

uterine contraction occurs <strong>and</strong> effacement of cervix with 2<br />

cm dilated.<br />

4.1 Mechanism <strong>and</strong> Stages of Labour<br />

It has three stages.<strong>The</strong>se stages are described as:<br />

<strong>The</strong> first stage of labour it begins with regular rhythmic<br />

contraction <strong>and</strong> is complete when the cervix is fully dilated.<br />

<strong>The</strong> second stage is begins when the cervix is fully dilated<br />

<strong>and</strong> is completed when the baby is completely born.<br />

<strong>The</strong> third stage begins with the delivery of the baby <strong>and</strong> ends<br />

with delivery of placenta. It also involves the control of<br />

bleeding.<br />

4.1.1 Management of 1 st Stage of Labour<br />
