J. R. Shackleton<br />

J. R. Shackleton is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Economic</strong>s at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong><br />

Buckingham <strong>and</strong> an IEA Fellow. He was previously Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Business Schools at <strong>the</strong> Universities <strong>of</strong> East London <strong>and</strong> Westminster.<br />

He has also taught at Queen Mary, University <strong>of</strong> London, <strong>and</strong><br />

been an economic adviser in <strong>the</strong> Government <strong>Economic</strong> Service.<br />

His research interests focus primarily on labour markets <strong>and</strong><br />

employment issues. He has published widely in both academic<br />

<strong>and</strong> popular media <strong>and</strong> has appeared many times on radio <strong>and</strong><br />

TV.<br />

Christopher Snowdon<br />

Christopher Snowdon read history at Lancaster University <strong>and</strong><br />

has been a full-time author <strong>and</strong> journalist since 2009. His research<br />

focuses on prohibition, junk science <strong>and</strong> public health. He is <strong>the</strong><br />

author <strong>of</strong> The Spirit Level Delusion <strong>and</strong> Velvet Glove, Iron Fist: A<br />

History <strong>of</strong> Anti-Smoking. His most recent book is The Art <strong>of</strong> Suppression:<br />

Pleasure, Panic <strong>and</strong> Prohibition since 1800.<br />

Munich. She has published many articles that have appeared<br />

in journals such as Contemporary <strong>Economic</strong> Policy, <strong>the</strong> Quarterly<br />

Journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>Economic</strong>s <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Journal <strong>of</strong> Labor <strong>Economic</strong>s.<br />

Justin Wolfers<br />

Justin Wolfers is an associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> business <strong>and</strong> public<br />

policy at Wharton University <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania. He attended<br />

Harvard University from 1997 to 2001 <strong>and</strong> has a PhD <strong>and</strong> an<br />

AM in economics. Justin’s research interests include law <strong>and</strong><br />

economics, labour economics, social policy, political economy,<br />

behavioural economics <strong>and</strong> macroeconomics. He is a research<br />

associate for <strong>the</strong> National Bureau for <strong>Economic</strong> Research <strong>and</strong> is<br />

currently affiliated with <strong>the</strong> Center for <strong>the</strong> Study <strong>of</strong> Poverty <strong>and</strong><br />

Inequality, Kiel <strong>Institute</strong> for <strong>the</strong> World Economy <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Brookings<br />

Institution. Justin has published articles in journals such as<br />

Contemporary <strong>Economic</strong> Policy, <strong>the</strong> Quarterly Journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>Economic</strong>s<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Economic</strong> Journal: <strong>Economic</strong> Policy. He has also<br />

published research for <strong>the</strong> World Bank.<br />

Betsey Stevenson<br />

Betsey Stevenson is an assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> business <strong>and</strong> public<br />

policy at Wharton University <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania. She received her<br />

Masters <strong>and</strong> PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1999<br />

<strong>and</strong> 2001, respectively. Betsey is <strong>the</strong> visiting assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

<strong>and</strong> visiting associate research scholar in <strong>the</strong> Industrial Relations<br />

Section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Economic</strong>s at Princeton University.<br />

She is affiliated with <strong>the</strong> National Bureau <strong>of</strong> <strong>Economic</strong> Research,<br />

<strong>the</strong> American Law <strong>and</strong> <strong>Economic</strong>s Association, <strong>and</strong> CESifo in<br />
