J. R. Shackleton
J. R. Shackleton is Professor of Economics at the University of
Buckingham and an IEA Fellow. He was previously Dean of the
Business Schools at the Universities of East London and Westminster.
He has also taught at Queen Mary, University of London, and
been an economic adviser in the Government Economic Service.
His research interests focus primarily on labour markets and
employment issues. He has published widely in both academic
and popular media and has appeared many times on radio and
TV.
Christopher Snowdon
Christopher Snowdon read history at Lancaster University and
has been a full-time author and journalist since 2009. His research
focuses on prohibition, junk science and public health. He is the
author of The Spirit Level Delusion and Velvet Glove, Iron Fist: A
History of Anti-Smoking. His most recent book is The Art of Suppression:
Pleasure, Panic and Prohibition since 1800.

in journals such as Contemporary Economic Policy, the Quarterly
Journal of Economics and the Journal of Labor Economics.
Justin Wolfers
Justin Wolfers is an associate professor of business and public
policy at Wharton University of Pennsylvania. He attended
Harvard University from 1997 to 2001 and has a PhD and an
AM in economics. Justin’s research interests include law and
economics, labour economics, social policy, political economy,
behavioural economics and macroeconomics. He is a research
associate for the National Bureau for Economic Research and is
currently affiliated with the Center for the Study of Poverty and
Inequality, Kiel Institute for the World Economy and the Brookings
Institution. Justin has published articles in journals such as
Contemporary Economic Policy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics
and the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy. He has also
published research for the World Bank.
Betsey Stevenson
Betsey Stevenson is an assistant professor of business and public
policy at Wharton University of Pennsylvania. She received her
Masters and PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1999
and 2001, respectively. Betsey is the visiting assistant professor
and visiting associate research scholar in the Industrial Relations
Section of the Department of Economics at Princeton University.
She is affiliated with the National Bureau of Economic Research,
the American Law and Economics Association, and CESifo in
