Diploma in Nutrition and Health<br />

Education (DNHE)<br />

This programme imparts basic knowledge on nutrition<br />

and health. It also trains personnel in imparting this<br />

knowledge to the community at large.<br />

Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education<br />

(DECE)<br />

This programme helps learners to acquire adequate<br />

knowledge, right attitudes and skills necessary for<br />

working with children in the age group 0-6 years. It also<br />

equips them with skills of organising and managing<br />

child care centres like creches, pre-schools, nursery<br />

schools and day-care centres. This programme is offered<br />

in three languages: English, Hindi and Tamil.<br />

Certificate Programme in Rural Development<br />

(CRD)<br />

The aim of this programme is to acquaint learners with<br />

basic aspects of rural development in India.<br />

Certificate in Food and Nutrition (CFN)<br />

In this programme, the learner is acquainted with good<br />

eating habits and the role of food in ensuring healthy<br />

living for the individual, the family and the community.<br />

This programme is offered in several languages:<br />

Assamese, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam,<br />

Marathi, Punjabi, Oriya and Tamil.<br />

Certificate in Nutrition and Child Care (CNCC)<br />

This programme aims at developing knowledge,<br />

understanding and skills regarding nutrition and child<br />

development.<br />

Certificate Programme in Food Safety (CFS)<br />

The University, in collaboration with the Ministry of<br />

Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has<br />

launched this professional and career upgradation online<br />

programme in the area of food safety and quality. The<br />

programme focuses on the knowledge upgradation and<br />

enrichment in the area of food safety. It is meant especially<br />

for government functionaries, food industry workers and<br />

catering industry workers.<br />

Certificate Programmes in Early Childhood Special<br />

Education Enabling Inclusion (Cerebral Palsy)<br />

This programme, jointly offered with the National Centre<br />

for Disability Studies, will equip the learner to work as<br />

a member of an interdisciplinary team providing early<br />

intervention to children up to six years of age in a<br />

variety of settings. The settings would include homebased<br />

intervention, centre-based intervention in special<br />

and/or inclusion set-ups, and community-based<br />

intervention set-ups. This programme is worth<br />

24 credits, and is of one year duration.<br />

Awareness-cum-Training Packages (for parents<br />

and family members of children with<br />

disabilities)<br />

The Awareness-cum-Training Packages in Disability,<br />

developed in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Council<br />

of India, are a unique initiative for parents of the<br />

disabled as well as community workers. A life-span<br />

perspective has been adopted, with particular focus on<br />

early childhood years. These packages seek to equip<br />

parents, family members, community workers and others<br />

with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills,<br />

to enable them to look after children with disabilities<br />

better and to foster their overall development. The<br />

following stand-alone Awareness-cum-Training Packages<br />

are offered jointly with NCDS, through select NGOs<br />

across the country.<br />

Disability (Visual Impairment)<br />

NCD-003 Awareness-cum-Training Package in<br />

Disability (Cerebral Palsy)<br />

Project<br />

An Agreement was signed between <strong>IGNOU</strong>, Ministry of<br />

Panchayati Raj and UNDP on 23 rd October, 2007, to<br />

undertake a Project on, ‘Capacity Building of PRIs<br />

through a Multi Mode Training Intervention’. The<br />

project was to cover six northern states including Bihar,<br />

Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh<br />

and Uttarakhand with the Indira Gandhi National<br />

Open University (<strong>IGNOU</strong>) as the implementing agency.<br />

The main objectives of the project are, to build the<br />

capacities of elected members of Panchayats and<br />

development functionaries, and to institutionalize<br />

mechanisms to strengthen capacity building.<br />
