The School aims to provide academic and<br />

training programmes in Translation theory,<br />

comparative Asian and Western traditions of translation,<br />

applied translation, translation and mass communication,<br />

translation and inter-cultural studies and translation and<br />

linguistics. In addition, the School also organizes regular<br />

training programmes in different parts of India to develop<br />

urgently required human resource in the field of<br />

translation.<br />

Programmes on Offer<br />

M.A. in Translation Studies (MATS)<br />

This on-campus, full-time programme is worth 64 credits.<br />

Graduates with an adequate knowledge of Hindi and<br />

English are eligible for admission. The students’ intake<br />

in the programme is 20 students per academic year. The<br />

medium of instruction is Hindi/English.<br />

Post Graduate Diploma in Translation (PGDT)<br />

The main aim of PGDT is to enable students to acquire<br />

skills in translation from Hindi to English and viceversa.<br />

These courses have been prepared keeping in<br />

mind the need for translation in our socio-cultural and<br />

professional areas.<br />

P.G. Certificate in Bangla-Hindi Translation<br />

(PGCBHT)<br />

This programme is intended for those who have a<br />

graduation degree and are acquainted with the knowledge<br />

of Hindi and Bengali. The objectives of the programme<br />

are to facilitate inter-lingual and intra-lingual academic<br />

and cultural activity between these two Indian languages.<br />

P.G. Certificate in Malayalam-Hindi Translation<br />

(PGCMHT)<br />

This programme is intended for those who have a<br />

graduation degree and who aspire to make their career in<br />

the area of Malayalam-Hindi translation. The objectives<br />

of the programme are to facilitate inter-lingual and intralingual<br />

academic and cultural activity between these two<br />

Indian languages.<br />

National Translation Training Programmes<br />

The School is organising these programmes at different<br />

parts of the country. Their aim is to impart skill-based<br />

knowledge to the personnel working in the government,<br />

PSUs, industry, mass media, academics, publishing, etc.,<br />

and also to generate trained human resources in the field<br />

of translation.<br />

The tourism and hospitality sector has been growing at<br />

a rapid pace and generating a lot of employment<br />

opportunities. There is a tremendous demand for tourism<br />

and hospitality services courses with further specialisation<br />

in areas such as high quality escorts, guides and trade<br />

personnel for handling transport and cargo. Accordingly,<br />

the School of Tourism, Hospitality Service Sectoral<br />

Management has been established, with the following<br />

objectives:<br />

to produce high quality research and academic<br />

programmes, emphasising both societal as well as<br />

industrial needs, in the areas of tourism and<br />

hospitality services; and<br />

to offer capacity building training programmes for<br />

various levels of jobs in the sector.<br />

Ph.D in Tourism Studies<br />

(The details are given in the table at the end of this<br />

profile.)<br />

Master of Science (Hospitality Administration)<br />

(MHA)<br />

This programme has been designed to provide technical<br />

and professional expertise in the areas of managing<br />

the hotel and hospitality services. This is a unique<br />

programme offered in collaboration with the National<br />

Council for Hotel Management and Catering<br />

Technology (NCHMCT). Initially, this programme is<br />

being offered through the Institutes of Hotel<br />

Management affiliated to NCHMCT at Delhi, Mumbai,<br />

Bangalore, and Kolkata with a total intake of 100<br />

students every year. At present it is being offered only<br />

through IHM Pusa, New Delhi.<br />

Master of Arts (Tourism Management) (MTM)<br />

This is a professional programme designed to cater to<br />

the needs of the tourism industry. It is useful for all those<br />

who are either employed or intend to make a career in<br />

tourism.<br />
