Ph.D in Mathematics<br />

This programme aims at enhancing and deepening the<br />

understanding of mathematics of the students, and<br />

equipping them to do quality research in the area of<br />

Ph.D in Physics<br />

This programme is being offered to provide<br />

opportunities for research in various fundamental and<br />

applied areas of Physics with the view to promote<br />

learning and encourage excellence in the respective<br />

fields of knowledge. It aims to nurture researchers in<br />

Physics with an in-depth understanding of the subject<br />

and develop in them the capability of carrying out<br />

Master`s Degree Programme in Mathematics<br />

(with Applications in Computer Science) (MACS)<br />

This programme emphasises the relevance and usefulness<br />

of mathematics from the application point of view, and<br />

equips the learners with core mathematical knowledge<br />

and the training necessary for use in many application<br />

areas. The programme exposes the learners to real-life<br />

problems and promotes the use of mathematics in industry<br />

and the applied sciences.<br />

Bachelor`s Degree Programme in<br />

Science (BSc)<br />

The main aim of this programme is to provide<br />

opportunities for higher science education to in-service<br />

people living in rural/remote areas and belonging to<br />

disadvantaged sections of the society and to promote<br />

scientific temper in everyday life. Learners can obtain<br />

either a BSc (General) or a BSc (Major) degree in any<br />

one of the streams of Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics,<br />

Physics and Zoology.<br />

Learners should opt for elective courses from at least 2<br />

science disciplines. In any given discipline, learners can<br />

opt for elective courses worth a minimum of 8 credits<br />

and a maximum of 48 credits. Of the total credits opted<br />

for in the elective courses of Physics, Chemistry and<br />

Life Sciences disciplines, a minimum of 25% of the<br />

credits may be taken from laboratory courses.<br />

In addition to the requirements mentioned above, a<br />

minimum number of credits to be taken in elective<br />

courses in the various science disciplines will enable a<br />

learner to major in that discipline. Please refer to the<br />

Post Graduate Diploma in Environment and<br />

Sustainable Development (PGDESD)<br />

This programme has been developed in collaboration<br />

with other open universities in the SAARC region, with<br />

financial support from the South Asia Foundation. The<br />

objectives of the programme are to share information<br />

about sustainable development, strengthen regional cooperation<br />

in environmental capacity building, especially<br />

in the area of environmental management, to educate<br />

and train individuals from different walks of life, viz.,<br />

development functionaries, government officials,<br />

journalists, policy makers, farmers, industrialists,<br />

grassroot workers, environmentalists who have a stake<br />

in protecting the environment as<br />

well as ensuring a better quality of<br />

life for the peoples of their<br />

countries.<br />
