<strong>IGNOU</strong> offers the learners a variety of vocational<br />

programmes, as well as the Bachelor Degree programmes.<br />

Some academic programmes have also been<br />

translated by the regional centres into other<br />

Indian languages for the benefit of learners of their<br />

regions. For example, the Awareness Package on<br />

Disability has been translated into Tamil and the<br />

Certificate in Organic Farming has been translated into<br />

Punjabi.<br />

Recently, there has been an increasing decentralisation,<br />

to the regional centres, of large operations. As part of<br />

this, the responsibility of the admissions and distribution<br />

of study materials to students is now with the regional<br />

centres. Also, all TEE exam forms, including those with<br />

late fee after due dates, are now received at the regional<br />

centres.<br />

Programmes Developed by RCs<br />

Several regional centres have taken the initiative of<br />

developing need-based programmes with the Schools<br />

concerned. For instance, Regional Centre, Bangalore, is<br />

working on B. Tech in Aircraft Technology and<br />

Maintenance; Patna Regional Centre has developed<br />

Certificate in Energy Technology and Management; the<br />

Chennai Regional Centre is developing programmes on<br />

Social Entrepreneurship; Cochin Regional Centre, in<br />

association with the School of Agriculture, has launched<br />

the Post Graduate Diploma in Plantation Management.<br />

A successful learner of the programme for anganwadi workers in<br />

Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, designed and developed by the Regional<br />

Centre, Bhopal and UNICEF.<br />

Jail inmates at “Sensitisation-cum-On the Spot Admission” drive<br />

Some regional centres have taken significant initiatives<br />

for the benefit of learners in their regions. For instance,<br />

Jaipur and Kolkata Regional Centres have got<br />

sponsorship from their respective State Governments for<br />

learners taking up Computer Programmes and Consumer<br />

Affairs, respectively. Jabalpur Regional Centre has<br />

launched a Mobile Study Centre for reaching out to the<br />

educationally and economically backward tribal areas of<br />

the region. Several regional centres have liaised with the<br />

local jail authorities for running study centres for jail<br />

inmates. <strong>IGNOU</strong> has also allowed jail inmates to take its<br />

programmes without paying any fee.<br />

The Division is also responsible for the overall<br />

coordination of activities pertaining to the annual<br />

convocation. The main convocation is held at the<br />

Headquarters, and simultaneously at all Regional Centres<br />

through teleconferencing mode via satellite, and students<br />

have the option to attend it either at the Headquarters or<br />

at the Regional Centre of their choice.<br />

The Student Evaluation Division (SED) is responsible<br />

for organising the Term End Examinations (TEEs) and<br />

entrance tests (for a few programmes) across the country.<br />

It also organises the evaluation of the performance of<br />

students in TEEs, coordination of the activities pertaining<br />

to continuous assessment through assignments, activities<br />
