ISRO Chair on Satellite<br />

Communication Education<br />

This Chair is being established in collaboration with<br />

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Visualising<br />

that satellite communications will play a critical role in<br />

the growth of the Open and Distance Learning System in<br />

the country, the thrust of the Chair will be to define<br />

national level programmes that will tap the potential of<br />

this technology and play a critical role in improving<br />

access as well as the quality of education at all levels.<br />

The Chair will undertake research and educational<br />

activities in the area of the application of satellite<br />

communication for education. A team consisting of<br />

faculty, research scholars and experts drawn from the<br />

area of space technology, education and other relevant<br />

areas will assist the chair in its activities.<br />

Tagore Chair for Indian Literature<br />

This Chair is located in the School of Humanities. The<br />

Chair is established to organise symposia, seminars and<br />

undertake research studies on Indian literature. The<br />

activities of the Chair include the editing of a bilingual<br />

(English and Hindi) Journal on Literature, Language and<br />

Culture Studies.<br />

Chair for Technology-Enabled<br />

Education<br />

This Chair is located in the School of Education. The<br />

Chair will take up various academic activities for:<br />

effective utilisation of technology in development,<br />

planning and transaction of curriculum;<br />

capacity building of teachers, teacher educators, and<br />

educational functionaries at different levels;<br />

carrying out research for utilisation/impact of<br />

technology in various sectors of education;<br />

documenting and awarding best practices in<br />

technology-enabled education.<br />

Chair for Industry-Academy<br />

This Chair is located in the School of Management<br />

Studies. The Chair was established with the following<br />

For a continuous dialogue with the industry in order<br />

to obtain a dynamic understanding of their managerial<br />

needs, enabling the School to keep the academic<br />

contents of the programme relevant to the changing<br />

market dynamics.<br />

training programmes as per the specific<br />

needs of various sectors of the economy.<br />

To organise talks by eminent professionals and make<br />

them available to a wide spectrum of audience using<br />

ICT.<br />

To provide a platform to School of Management<br />

Studies (SOMS), alumni to share their experience.<br />

MHRD Rajiv Gandhi Chair for<br />

Contemporary Studies<br />

This is a University Level Chair established by the<br />

Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD).<br />

The Chair will conduct studies and research on themes<br />

close to the heart of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.<br />

The objective of the Chair is to create national centres<br />

for academic deliberations and action-oriented research<br />

in the frontier areas of contemporary relevance for<br />

improving the quality of life and life management systems.<br />

In particular, it would focus on the themes of Panchayati<br />

Raj Systems and Local Governance, Women’s<br />

Empowerment, Impact of Technology on Society, Ecosystems<br />

and Sustainable Development, Livelihood and<br />

Food Security, Nuclear Disarmament and Peace Studies,<br />

Tribal Development, Protection of Child Rights, Social<br />

Justice, and Secularism and Nation Building.<br />

This Chair, established to promote mathematics and<br />

science education, is located in the School of Sciences.<br />

This Chair will initiate, plan and coordinate various<br />

academic activities in the project mode. Prof.<br />

Manoharan, an eminent chemist, is the Chair professor.<br />

The activities would include creating courses/<br />

programmes, writing books, creating multi-media material<br />

for different levels of learning, advice on innovative<br />

methods for science education and use of technology in<br />

distance mode. The Chair will also map out policies for<br />

national initiatives or for furthering the cause of science/<br />

mathematics education nationally/internationally. It will<br />

promote teaching, research and curricular development<br />

in the area.<br />
