1.12.2 Exhalation. As the soldier exhales, the inlet valve disk seats against the inlet<br />

valve gasket to prevent the soldier from inhaling exhaled air. Also, the nosecup valve<br />

disks seat against the nosecup seats to prevent exhaled air from entering the eye cavity<br />

which results in fogging of the eyelenses. Exhaled air is then directed to the outlet valve<br />

disk, which is forced open. The<br />

overall result of the outlet<br />

valve disk opening the nosecup<br />

and inlet valve disks closing is<br />

that the facial seal is<br />

maintained. Exhaled air flows<br />

past the outlet valve disk and<br />

into the outlet valve cover,<br />

where it is directed outside the<br />

mask<br />
