Oil Can Henry’s, based <strong>in</strong> Tualat<strong>in</strong>,<br />

has announced a jo<strong>in</strong>t campaign <strong>in</strong> western<br />

states with Universal Lubricants <strong>of</strong><br />

Wichita, Kan., to <strong>in</strong>crease motorists’<br />

awareness <strong>of</strong> proper vehicle ma<strong>in</strong>tenance<br />

and the economic benefits <strong>of</strong> us<strong>in</strong>g ECO<br />

ULTRA motor oil produced by Universal.<br />

The ECO ULTRA l<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> motor oil is ec<strong>of</strong>riendly<br />

and reduces the dependence on<br />

foreign oil, said the two firms. Oil Can<br />

Henry’s operates 88 service centers <strong>in</strong><br />

Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho,<br />

Oregon, and <strong>Wash<strong>in</strong>gton</strong>. The firm has a<br />

reputation as “The One You can Trust” by<br />

<strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g customers <strong>in</strong> vehicle service and<br />

educat<strong>in</strong>g them on proper vehicle<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>tenance, <strong>of</strong>ficials said, add<strong>in</strong>g that Oil<br />

Can Henry’s is committed to reduc<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

impact on the environment by recycl<strong>in</strong>g<br />

used oil, antifreeze, and other fluids.<br />

Merles Saunders has retired after 31<br />

years as the automotive <strong>in</strong>structor at Vale<br />

High School. He was a legendary<br />

<strong>in</strong>structor from the small eastern Oregon<br />

town for plac<strong>in</strong>g first <strong>in</strong> more state<br />

competitions <strong>in</strong> the Ford/AAA Student<br />

Auto Skills competitions than any high<br />

school <strong>in</strong> the state, w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g 24 state contests.<br />

Student teams from Vale also placed first <strong>in</strong><br />

the national Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills<br />

competition five times, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 2011 <strong>in</strong><br />

Dearborn, Mich., and placed <strong>in</strong> the top 10 a<br />

record 18 times. The skills competition is a<br />

nationwide contest for high school juniors<br />

and seniors who are <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> pursu<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

career <strong>in</strong> automotive technology. In 2011, its<br />

62nd year, the competition <strong>in</strong>volved 10,000<br />

students who competed for a record $12<br />

<strong>million</strong> <strong>in</strong> scholarships.<br />

The first week <strong>of</strong> October marked the<br />

kick-<strong>of</strong>f <strong>of</strong> a seven-week “Mitsubishi i<br />

100% Electric Experience” test drive<br />

tour <strong>of</strong> Oregon, <strong>Wash<strong>in</strong>gton</strong>, and California.<br />

The Albany Indoor Swap Meet will<br />

take place Nov. 19 on Spr<strong>in</strong>ghill Drive <strong>in</strong><br />

Albany. The event draws hundreds <strong>of</strong><br />

vendors and thousands <strong>of</strong> buyers throughout<br />

the Northwest to the <strong>in</strong>door venue that<br />

features a full spectrum <strong>of</strong> automotiverelated<br />

products.<br />

hands-on demonstration <strong>of</strong> the<br />

spot welder. “The enemy <strong>of</strong><br />

high-strength steel is heat and a<br />

hammer,” Leddy said. “You<br />

really have to know what type <strong>of</strong><br />

metal you’re weld<strong>in</strong>g on. You<br />

can’t assume its all mild steel.”<br />

A “Hard Hat & High Heels” fundraiser<br />

and sneak peak at the progress <strong>of</strong> LeMay-<br />

America’s Car Museum (ACM) <strong>in</strong><br />

Tacoma was held Sept. 24, attract<strong>in</strong>g more<br />

than 650 ACM supporters. An auction <strong>of</strong><br />

more than 130 items raised $550,000 for the<br />

museum, which is set for a grand open<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

June 2012. The 165,000-square-foot facility,<br />

which sits on 3.5 acres, will feature more<br />

than 500 cars from the Harold LeMay<br />

collection as well as host<strong>in</strong>g meet<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />

conventions, parties, and educational events.<br />

“This was an important milestone because it<br />

signifies we’re open for bus<strong>in</strong>ess now even<br />

though the grand open<strong>in</strong>g is next year,” said<br />

David Madeira, president and CEO <strong>of</strong><br />
