l On 22 June 2010, the 90th Birthday of
Aleksander Jackowski was celebrated at the
Institute of Art. The laudatory speeches were
given by: Lech Sokół, Ewa Korulska, Stanisław
Mossakowski, and Zbigniew Benedyktowicz.
To Honourable Aleksander Jackowski,
in recognition of His merits for the Institute of
Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences; in gratitude
for His long-standing work as the head of the
Department of Folk and Non-Professional Art;
for His contribution to the Action for the
Collection of Folklore and Documentation of
Folk Art; for the 48 years of His creative work
as Editor-in-chief of the „Polska Sztuka Ludowa
KONTEKSTY” quarterly, turning it into the
leading ethnology magazine of the country; to
the Author of hundreds of scholarly articles and
some dozen fundamental reference books on
folk art, contemporary art, l’art brut, naïve art
(i.a. Art of the Polish Peasants [1965], Art Called
Naïve [1995], On Sculptures and Sculptors
[1997], Folk Paintings [1998], Sorrowful Landscape,
Wayside Shrines and Crosses; Polish Folk
Art [2002]; Places and People [2003]; Nikifor’s
World [2005]; to a university Lecturer who has
shaped and educated several generations of
Polish ethnographers and ethnologists; in gratitude
for His contribution to the Committee of
Ethnologist Sciences at the Polish Academy of
Sciences; to the guardian and friend of the
artists who are „apart”, „different”; to the
