As at 31 March <strong>2012</strong>, there were 2,578 staff in service, comprising 1,740 academic and 838 nonacademic<br />

staff. Between the teaching staff and students, the ratio stood at 1:15, the same as that in<br />

FY 2010. To maintain a high quality workforce, consistent and continued training and development is<br />

an integral part <strong>of</strong> our human resource policy. In FY <strong>2011</strong>, 88% <strong>of</strong> staff achieved at least 100 learning<br />

hours, taking up four per cent <strong>of</strong> payroll.<br />

<strong>ITE</strong> staff produced commendable results for the year under review. Apart from the 221 staff who<br />

were promoted in FY <strong>2011</strong>, a number <strong>of</strong> them received awards in recognition <strong>of</strong> their good work and<br />

dedicated service to <strong>ITE</strong> and Singapore:<br />

National Day Award <strong>2011</strong><br />

Awarded to 9 staff<br />

Four years after implementing the Total System Capability initiative to enhance the pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

capabilities <strong>of</strong> staff, 83% <strong>of</strong> <strong>ITE</strong> staff have the pr<strong>of</strong>essional capability to ‘Do’ or ‘Lead’ in industry<br />

projects or consultancy work. That’s four percentage points higher than FY 2010. We also introduced<br />

the ‘REAL Leadership’ Learning Series in August 2010 to build leadership capabilities among the<br />

senior and middle management team. This Series also exposes the team to different perspectives and<br />

invaluable insights shared by public-sector leaders and industry captains. A total <strong>of</strong> five sessions were<br />

organised in FY <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

We continued to enjoy cordial relations with our two staff unions – the Union <strong>of</strong> <strong>ITE</strong> Training Staff (UITS)<br />

and the <strong>ITE</strong> Administrative & Ancillary Staff Branch <strong>of</strong> the Amalgamated Union <strong>of</strong> Public Employees<br />

(AUPE). Apart from the annual <strong>ITE</strong> Management-Union Games held on 2 March <strong>2012</strong>, Service<br />

Appreciation Awards were also presented to two deserving key union <strong>of</strong>fice holders at the <strong>ITE</strong> Awards<br />

Ceremony on 21 October <strong>2011</strong>, in appreciation <strong>of</strong> their contribution towards a healthy industrial<br />

relations climate.<br />

<strong>ITE</strong> Breakthrough (2000-2004), <strong>ITE</strong>’s<br />

second strategic plan to help young<br />

people gain skills that are relevant in a<br />

knowledge-based economy, was rolled out.<br />

<strong>ITE</strong> Bukit Batok began operations.<br />

2000<br />

<strong>ITE</strong> attained People Developer<br />

status for people excellence.<br />

2001<br />

<strong>ITE</strong> MacPherson commenced operations.<br />
