F Y 2 0 1 1 H I G H L I G H T S F Y 2 0 1 1 H I G H L I G H T S WITH HELPING HANDS, WE CAN ENGAGE HEARTS When we first introduced a Total Training Philosophy during the ITE 2000 Plan (1995 – 1999), it was to mould students into allrounded individuals. Today, we continue that practice to develop students who care for the community and society; to train them to not just be adaptable, enterprising and have market-relevant skills, but also possess empathy and compassion. Local Engagements WITH HELPING HANDS, WE CAN ENGAGE HEARTS Along the way, we have made it a point to constantly highlight instances where our staff exhibit the ITE Care values, which focus on Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence, and most importantly, Care, in an effort to inspire each other. We are, in fact, most proud that these values extend beyond the boundaries of our campuses, to the community at large, and even around the world. Corporate Social Responsibility activities play an important role in the provision of a holistic education. In the course of the year, we have participated in various fund-raising events, including the Children’s Charities Association Christmas Fair where proceeds went to the Singapore Association for the Deaf and Chaoyang School; and the NTUC FairPrice Walk For Rice programme where we earned 23,529kg of rice for needy families in Singapore. Hearts of Gold Beneath the hustle and bustle of everyday campus life lie wonderful acts of kindness that go unseen, or unannounced. It is always a pleasure when we learn of staff or students who go out of the way to make life easier for others. For example, ITE College Central (Bishan Campus) students took the initiative to raise funds for a fellow schoolmate who was involved in an accident. Their heartwarming enthusiasm saw them raise over $1,300. In another instance, the staff at ITE College West got the thumbs-up from a grateful student for their care and concern shown. An amputee, the student was able to participate fully without worrying about mobility within the campus, thanks to the facilities, and a staff from the Automotive Technology department, who helped maintain his wheelchair at no cost. ITE Cares: Life is not all about studies and work, as our staff and students show. Throughout the year, they have regularly worked together to raise funds and help out various charities. 2010 ITE Innovate (2010-2014), the fourth five-year strategic plan, was launched to focus on ITE’s aspirations to be at the forefront of innovations in Vocational and Technical Education in the global arena. 2010 ITE College West, the second Regional Campus, was opened to students in July 2010 Second Technical Engineer Diploma, Automotive Engineering, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, was introduced. 2010 iStudent, an intuitive webbased, one-stop service to students was launched to replace e-Student. 2010 ITE attained the Singapore Innovation Class and Singapore Service Class awards, and was conferred the Public Service Distinguished Award by the Prime Minister’s Office. 2010 Development of the new ITE Headquarters and ITE College Central at Ang Mo Kio began in December. 44 ITE HIGHLIGHTS 2011/2012 ITE HIGHLIGHTS 2011/2012 45
