At the core of our successful transformation into a global force in
Vocational and Technical Education is the students. Looking at ITE
today, it can be hard to imagine that just two decades ago, we were
viewed as a ‘dead-end’ option for ‘under-achievers’ despite our new
status as a full-fledged post-secondary education institution.

Thanks to a strategic overhaul in the structure, policies, branding and pedagogic methods, we are now
an attractive, market-relevant, and career-focused education option for kinaesthetic learners. Under the
guidance of our passionate lecturers, our students have gone on to achieve success after success, while
gaining the confidence, skills and values that will see them become work ready, world ready graduates.
Student Success in Numbers
These strong indicators are accompanied by qualitative outcomes. Ms Shuner Villanueva Leong, a
graduate from ITE College East’s Nitec in Beauty Therapy course, became the first ITE graduate to win
a Gold Medal at the WorldSkills Competition in London in October 2011. Her dedication to her craft
saw her take home the top prize in the Beauty Therapy skills category. Two other ITE competitors – Noel
Ng Sing Guan (Nitec in Hair Fashion & Design) and Ong Gim Hui (Nitec in Food & Beverage Operations)
– also won Medallions for Excellence in the Ladies’/Men’s Hairdressing and Restaurant Service skills
categories respectively.

On Your Mark: To prepare the student delegates for the international arena, a camp was held to promote bonding amongst them.

The new National ITE Certification
(Nitec) System was launched to
streamline ITE’s certifications.
2002
ITE attained ISO 9001:2000
Certification for ITE’s Quality
Management System.

The e-Tutor Learning System (e-Tutor)
and e-Student Administration System
(e-Student) were implemented.
2002
The ITE Master Plan for the development of
three ‘Colleges of the Future’ was initiated.
2003
ITE Holding Pte Ltd and ITE Education Services
Pte Ltd (ITEES), a wholly-owned ITE subsidiary,
were formed to share ITE’s expertise in
Vocational and Technical Education.
