We offer secondary school leavers and working adults a wide range of part- and full-time courses to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore’s workforce locally and internationally. ITE adopts a ’One ITE System, Three Colleges’ Governance and Education Model to deliver consistent standards, quality programmes and successful graduates. Under this System, ITE Headquarters oversees system and policy issues and ensures standards, while the three Colleges, namely, ITE College Central, ITE College East and ITE College West, are empowered to develop niches of excellence to enhance the attractiveness of an ITE education. Set up in 1992, ITE is a post-secondary education institution under the Ministry of Education. C h a i r m a n ’s R e v i e w CHAIRMAN’S REVIEW Hand in Hand: 20 Years of Progress FY 2011 was a significant year for ITE. Just two years into the launch of our fourth Strategic Plan, ITE Innovate (2010 – 2014), we have made considerable progress towards our vision to be ‘A Global Leader for Innovations in Technical Education’. In 2011, ITE became the first education institution to be conferred the Singapore Quality Award with Special Commendation. This award is a strong endorsement of the systems and processes we have put in place to deliver the best education for our students. During the year, we were also privileged to have received the top Public Service Premier Award for Organisational Excellence in the Public Sector. These awards are an acknowledgement of the collective efforts of each staff member and I would like to congratulate all of you for all that you have achieved. Successful Students 2011 saw ITE reach new peaks in terms of full-time enrolment and overseas learning opportunities. We had 25,833 students in full-time enrolment, and over a quarter (28%) of them had the opportunity to participate in overseas attachment, exchange and service learning programmes. Our Student Success Rate was also very encouraging, with 82% successfully completing their courses in ITE. About nine out of 10 of our graduates were also employed within six months of graduating – a testament of the quality of training each student receives. This success also extends to performance at international competitions. For the first time, an ITE graduate, Shuner Villaneuva Leong, won a Gold Medal for Singapore in the Beauty Therapy Skills Category of WorldSkills Competition, held in London in October 2011. ITE students also won two Medallions of Excellence in the Ladies’/Men’s Hairdressing and Restaurant Service Skills Categories in the competition. “FY 2011 was a significant year for ITE.
