Qurs (Tablet): These are flat or biconvex and round/triangular/<br />
quadrangular. These are made manually or mechanically. In comparison<br />
of pill, these are easy to chew. Pill and tablet are<br />
differentiated by only shape. Their aims are some how similar, which<br />
are as follows.<br />
(i) Dose maintenance<br />
(ii) Coating sugar or using other agents may alter taste<br />
(iii) Easy to swallow<br />
Safoof: Dried powdered drug is Safoof. It may be prepared from one<br />
drug or from more than one drug. Hippocrates used it in his period.<br />
There are so many powders used in different ailments. Safoof Hazim,<br />
Safoof Chutki, etc are some examples. There are some other drugs,<br />
which are used in form of powder.<br />
(i) Sanoon (Tooth powder): Those drugs, which are rubbed on teeth<br />
to make them white or to cure pyorrhea. As Sanoon Mujalli which is<br />
used to make tooth white and Sanoon pyorrhea to cure bleeding and<br />
pus from gums.<br />
(ii) Mazoogh (Masticator): The powder, which is chewed. It increases<br />
the mouth secretion. They are chewed to reduce pain of teeth and<br />
gum. As powder of Aqirqarha (Anacylus pyrethrum root).<br />
(iii) Burud aur Kohl (Eye dusting powder): These are such powders<br />
which, cools the eyes. In these combination Podina (Mentha arvensis<br />
herb) is added with other drugs. Kohl is such powder, which is used<br />
for eye diseases and by stick on eyelids. As Kohl Chikna.<br />
(iv) Zaroor (Dusting powder): Microfine powder dusted on wounds<br />
or ulcers. Zaroor Qula is dusted on month ulcers.<br />
(v) Nafookh (Insufelation): Microfine powder puffed directly or<br />
through pipe in nose.<br />
(vi) Atoos (Irrhine): Microfine powder, which causes sneezing on<br />
smell. These may be solid or liquid. As powder of Nakchhikni.<br />
(vii) Ghaza (Face powder): Microfine scented powder used on face<br />
cleansing.<br />
(viii) Ghalia (Perfumed powder): Micro-fine scented powder rubbed on<br />
body. It in also called Argajah.<br />
(ix) Norah (Hair remover): These drugs are used to remove hair.<br />
These are in form of paste, powder and liquid. Lime is used as chief<br />
ingredient in them.<br />
Sherbat (Syrup): Syrup is a thick liquid preparation made by<br />
solution of sugar and water, Joshanda (Decoction), Khesanda (Infusion),<br />
Luab (Mucilage) or Sheera (dry seed or dry fruit ground with<br />
water). To make syrup, first make a Decoction, Infusion, and water<br />
extract of either dry fruits or herbs or seeds etc. (or other liquid<br />
base) and settle off any sediment. Place in a stainless steel pan and<br />
heat (there will be some scamming, which can be taken off as it<br />
cools). Prepare Qiwam (Basic Solution of Particular consistency).<br />
Cool and store for later use.<br />
Sikanjbeen: Feesaghorus (Py-thogorus) prepared it at first. Sirka<br />
(Acetic acid) and Angbeen (Honey), when mixed these two, product<br />
is Sikanjbeen. It is prepared with sugar also. When it is prepared<br />
with sugar called Sikanjbeen sada. These are of different types<br />
according to their chief ingredients. Their examples are Sikanjbeen<br />
Usooli, Sikanjbeen Bazoori, Sikanjbeen Favakiha, Sikanjbeen<br />
Lemony etc.<br />
Shyaf (Suppository):<br />
Shyaf is plural of Shaffah. It is generally for external use. These are<br />
prepared in convex shape. These are used generally by making<br />
solution in water or in required particular aqua. This is a preparation<br />
of drugs mixed with a suppository base such as cacao butter or<br />
glycerinated gelatin and molded into special shapes for insertion<br />
into the rectum, vagina, or urethra. The suppository bases are solid<br />
at room temperature but melt at the temperature of the body.<br />
Suppositories should be stored in a refrigerator, especially during<br />
the summer.<br />
