The atmosphere at <strong>Jersey</strong> Live<br />

Heavy Machine-Gun<br />
Turret Bunker<br />
One of the few surviving examples,<br />
named sechsschartentürme bunkers<br />
(literally “six-shooting turret”), once<br />
proliferated along the Atlantic Wall. It<br />
is possible to access the interior of<br />
the cupola, equipped with a<br />
deactivated MG34 machine-gun,<br />
and peer through the optics to see a<br />
landscape viewed as a potential<br />
invasion point by the German<br />
garrison.<br />

The Sunday Cycle<br />
Take this opportunity to see, smell<br />
and hear what the motorists miss.<br />
Enjoy a short cycle ride with Blue<br />
Badge Guide Arthur Lamy and<br />
discover the heart of the island. This<br />
route passes the <strong>Jersey</strong> War Tunnels,<br />
Morel Farm, St Lawrence Church and<br />
the Parish Hall, before an easy<br />
freewheel through one of <strong>Jersey</strong>’s<br />
prettiest valleys back to the beach<br />
side cycle track. Utilising the island’s<br />
cycle-friendly 15mph Green Lanes,<br />
this tour gives a great insight into<br />
local farming, the Occupation and the<br />
<strong>Jersey</strong> way of life. Each tour has<br />
several stops to enjoy the island’s<br />
history and culture, and usually a<br />
refreshment stop if time allows.<br />

Coastal Defence Gun<br />
Casemate<br />
This is the only coastal defence<br />
bunker in the St Ouen’s Bay area to<br />
retain its original gun, and is<br />
practically complete. The gun had a<br />
range of 10 – 12km and was part of<br />
a network of similar weapons along<br />
the coast.<br />

Archaeological Apprentice<br />
– <strong>Jersey</strong> Heritage<br />
At La Hougue Bie you have the<br />
chance to become an apprentice<br />
archaeologist and to have a go at<br />
some skills that are needed when<br />
taking part in any archaeology dig. All<br />
you have to do is pick up a pack from<br />
the reception at La Hougue Bie. The<br />
pack contains all the tools you will<br />
need to be an apprentice<br />
archaeologist.<br />
