the Neolithic Period to the present<br />

day, and here’s your chance to get<br />

the low-down on Gorey; the oyster<br />

fishing boom, treachery in the castle<br />

and other intriguing tales are as<br />

colourful as some of its famous<br />

residents: George Eliot, golfing<br />

legend Harry Vardon, and the man<br />

who captured the Rosetta Stone!<br />

Visits to the unique Faldouet dolmen<br />

and Victoria Tower, the last Martello<br />

built in Europe, before winding your<br />

way through village lanes and<br />

following the route of the <strong>Jersey</strong><br />

Eastern Railway to end at the Pier.<br />

the tiny fishermen’s cottages and<br />

churches that make up the village.<br />

Head back to Gorey with its many<br />

pubs and restaurants along the route<br />

Les Écréhous - Discover a<br />

Wild Beauty<br />

Les Écréhous are a hidden treasure<br />

mid-way between France and <strong>Jersey</strong>,<br />

a site of unique interest and protected<br />

as an international Ramsar wetland site.<br />

Amble between the cluster of former<br />

fishermen’s cabins and walk over huge<br />

sand bars which are submerged under<br />

many metres of ocean twice a day.<br />

Travel to the reef by charter boat (with<br />

inside seating) and explore with your<br />

guide the exceptional nature and<br />

history of this miniature world. You may<br />

see dolphins en-route to the<br />

archipelago or a seal close to the reef.<br />
