If the real sex ratio is 1.1, and 1st year stoats comprise 60% <strong>of</strong> the<br />

population, in every hundred stoats there will be 30 young males, 30 young<br />

females, 20 adult males and 20 adult females. Young males are the only<br />

animals which do not take part in the rut immediately after the breeding<br />

season: therefore the relative proportions <strong>of</strong> breeding animals will be<br />

males 20, females 50 - Ed.
