operating strategies, marketing strategy, international economics, development <strong>of</strong> competitive<br />

EMBA 640 Managing Strategically<br />

Managing Strategically: Semester four extends the concept <strong>of</strong> controlling and directing the enterprise.<br />

Relationships between the organization's internal environment and the highly competitive<br />

and rapidly changing external environment are emphasized. The semester's coursework<br />

includes budgeting, controlling, capital structure, financial strategy, competitive decision-making,<br />

negotiation, corporate communication, and the international environment. The business<br />

leader's role as an organizational prime mover is examined and experienced through a teambased<br />

entrepreneurial project which requires presentation <strong>of</strong> a thoroughly developed business<br />

plan to a panel <strong>of</strong> successful entrepreneurs. Pass/Fail 12 hrs.<br />

EMBA 671 International Experience<br />

International Experience: This is an interactive educational experience which includes a handson<br />

exploration <strong>of</strong> the economic, business and cultural environment <strong>of</strong> specific areas <strong>of</strong> the<br />

world. There are required pre-trip and post-trip sessions. The focus <strong>of</strong> the trip is selected and<br />

announced several months prior to the summer term. Pass/Fail 3 hrs.<br />

EMBA 672 Team Community Project<br />

Team Community Project: This is a team-consulting project conducted under the guidance <strong>of</strong> a<br />

faculty member on some specific strategic issues for the benefit <strong>of</strong> a nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization.<br />

Pass/Fail. 3 hrs.<br />

ENGL 110 Composition I<br />

Composition I: Development <strong>of</strong> the student's writing skills and introduction to research techniques.<br />

Emphasis is on the creation and revision <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> writing projects. Prerequisite for<br />

all other courses in the department in both the day and evening. Fall Term, every year, day and<br />

evening; Spring Term, evening only; and every summer. 3 hrs.<br />

ENGL 120 Composition II<br />

Composition II: Further development <strong>of</strong> the student's writing and research skills with focus on<br />

critical thinking and argumentation. Prerequisite for all other courses in the department in both<br />

the day and evening. Spring Term, every year, day and evening; Fall Term, evening only; and<br />

every summer. 3 hrs.<br />

ENGL 205 Intro to Literary Studies<br />

Introduction to Literary Studies: Introduction to the field <strong>of</strong> English studies, including critical theory,<br />

genres, research techniques, and advanced writing skills. Required <strong>of</strong> all students who plan<br />

to major in English Literature or Writing. The course should be taken before or immediately after<br />

the declaration <strong>of</strong> the English major. This course fulfills the <strong>University</strong> writing-intensive requirement.<br />

Prerequisite: English 120 (or the equivalent) or permission <strong>of</strong> the department. Spring<br />

Term, every year in the day, every other year in the evening. 3 hrs.<br />

ENGL 206 Intro to Creative Writing<br />

Introduction to Creative Writing: Study <strong>of</strong> principles and forms <strong>of</strong> creative writing. The course<br />

will include special attention to observation and reflection, form and meaning, modern usage<br />

and effective expression. 3 hrs.<br />
