Teacher Licensure
Students majoring in Foreign Language-French or Foreign Language-Spanish may earn
licensure to teach K-12. See the Cato School of Education for more information.
Writing Intensive Requirement
The writing-intensive course requirement may be met with one course chosen from FREN 310,
FREN 320, SPAN 310 or SPAN 320. Substitutions for these courses may be made with department
approval.
German
Non-major courses in German are also offered by the Foreign Language Department .
Language
Non-major courses in languages other than French, German and Spanish are also offered by
the Foreign Language Department depending upon student interest.
HISTORY DEPARTMENT
History, drawing upon nearly all fields of knowledge, helps provide a deeper understanding and
perspective of the forces which influence individuals and the world around them. It trains one in
the skills of research, analysis and written interpretation.
THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
Careers
A major in History is an excellent general foundation for many occupations, professional careers
and graduate study. It provides opportunities for careers in teaching, policy research
in government and business, archives and records management, law and politics and foreign
service.
Teacher licensure
Students majoring in History may earn licensure to teach History or Social Studies on the secondary
level (grades 9-12). See the Cato School of Education for more information.

The writing-intensive course requirement is met with HIST 299.
Degree
The major in History leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree.
