ENGL 650 Gateway Seminar: Creative Writing<br />

Gateway Seminar: Creative Writing: A series <strong>of</strong> three-day seminars uniquely focused on the<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional development <strong>of</strong> creative writers, focusing on different topics during each <strong>of</strong> the<br />

four required residencies. Students are required to take four Gateway Seminars for completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> the degree. All students must read required texts in advance <strong>of</strong> the seminars. Prerequisite:<br />

Admission to the MFA Program. Pass/Fail Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 12 hrs. 3 hrs.<br />

ENGL 651 Craft Seminar<br />

Craft Seminar: A series <strong>of</strong> individual seminars focused on issues <strong>of</strong> theory and practice in creative<br />

writing. Students must take three Craft Seminars during each <strong>of</strong> the four required residencies,<br />

with a total <strong>of</strong> 12 Craft Seminars required for completion <strong>of</strong> the degree. All students must<br />

read required texts in advance <strong>of</strong> the seminars. Prerequisite: Admission to the MFA Program.<br />

Pass/Fail Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 12 hrs. 1 hr.<br />

ENGL 671 Thesis Hours<br />

Thesis Hours: Independent study with a faculty member chosen as the thesis advisor, working<br />

toward completion <strong>of</strong> the required Master's thesis. Students will register for thesis hours twice,<br />

during the third and fourth semesters. Prerequisite: Admission to the MFA Program. Pass/Fail<br />

Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 6 hrs. 3 hrs.<br />

ENGL 672 Craft Seminar Preparation<br />

Craft Seminar Preparation: Independent study with a faculty member chosen as an advisor to<br />

help the student formulate his or her presentation <strong>of</strong> a Craft Seminar in the graduating residency,<br />

as required for the completion <strong>of</strong> the degree. Students will register for craft seminar<br />

preparation twice, during the third and fourth semesters. Prerequisite: Admission to the MFA<br />

Program. Pass/Fail Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 6 hrs. 3 hrs.<br />

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES<br />

ENST 220 Data Analysis for Natural Sciences<br />

Data Analysis for Natural Sciences: An introduction to the statistical concepts necessary for analyzing<br />

data generated through research in the natural sciences. This course will introduce the<br />

student to data description, the basics <strong>of</strong> probability, and hypothesis tests using examples from<br />

environmental science, biology, biochemistry, medicine. Access to Micros<strong>of</strong>t Excel is required.<br />

4 hrs.<br />
