The data from the compression tester was exported to an Excel file for analysis.<br />

The crushing yield load, deflection at crushing yield load, and apparent crushing<br />

stiffness were extrapolated from the data as follows:<br />

Crushing Yield Load – Point on the crush load/deflection curve at which an<br />

increase in deflection occurs without an increase in crush load expressed in lbs.<br />

to three significant figures (Figure 15).<br />

Deflection at Crushing Yield Load – Reduction in height (x-axis of Figure 15) of<br />

the sample at the crushing yield load expressed in inches to three significant<br />

figures.<br />

Apparent Crushing Stiffness – Calculated by selecting a point on the straight line<br />

segment of the crush load/deflection curve as shown in Figure 15 and dividing<br />

force at this point by the corresponding deflection expressed in pounds per inch<br />

to three significant figures.<br />
