Stage 3<br />

Progress to rais<strong>in</strong>g a “Miss<strong>in</strong>g Family Alert” is reached when a <strong>child</strong> or young<br />

person or family has not been located and there are concerns of significant harm.<br />

The speed <strong>in</strong> reach<strong>in</strong>g this stage is determ<strong>in</strong>ed by the risk assessment.<br />

This now needs to be discussed with the Lead Nurse <strong>for</strong> <strong>child</strong> <strong>protection</strong> with<strong>in</strong><br />

the Health Board. The Lead Nurse will collaborate with the Caldicott Guardian as<br />

required and agree the appropriateness of rais<strong>in</strong>g a NHS<strong>Scotland</strong> Miss<strong>in</strong>g Family<br />

Alert Form.<br />

When a Miss<strong>in</strong>g Child or Young Person is Found<br />

The Lead Nurse will contact the appropriate people to ensure that the<br />

<strong>child</strong>/young person/family are <strong>in</strong> receipt of NHS services and that appropriate and<br />

relevant risk assessment and referrals are made <strong>in</strong> accordance with professional<br />

practice, <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation shar<strong>in</strong>g protocols and <strong>child</strong> <strong>protection</strong> guidel<strong>in</strong>es. This will<br />

enable appropriate plann<strong>in</strong>g and actions can be taken to support the <strong>child</strong>/young<br />

person and family.<br />
