Recycler of the Year Award 2012 –
Robin Mitchell
Recycle Florida Today (RFT), Florida’s
statewide recycling association and trade group,
has selected Robin Mitchell as 2012 Recycler of
the Year. The award was presented during the
RFT Annual Conference and Exhibition in St. Pete
Beach, Florida in June. Robin was honored for her
contribution over the years to the
organization, and her involvement
since 1992 in waste reduction,
recycling, and green programs in
the industry both in the private and
public sectors.
Robin’s most recent contribution
was preparing a Roadmap
to help the State of Florida evaluate
the best alternatives for reaching
a 75% recycling goal. Robin
has been instrumental in helping
to prepare collection and MRF
contracts for multiple jurisdictions
Susan
Chapman
in FL that have provided for some of the lowest collection
costs for garbage, recyclables, yard waste
and bulky waste, while at the same time increasing
the revenue share for recyclables recovered
and sent to MRF processors. Prior to joining KCI,
Robin was the Executive Director for the Florida
Defenders of the Environment,
Gainesville, and the Waste Reduction
Specialist, for the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), Region 4, Atlanta, GA.

Robin has been with KCI for 13
years and is the third employee
that has been recognized by RFT
for their contribution in Florida.
Miriam Zimms was named
Recycler of the Year in 2008
and Mitch Kessler was given the
Lifetime Achievement Award in
2006.
