Engine Belt Tension<br />

Belt Tension :<br />

Check the condition of belts on the engine. Examine the edges of the<br />

belt for cracks or fraying.<br />

Check the tension of the belt by pushing on it with your thumb midway<br />

between the pulleys for the alternator belt and A.C. compressor belt.<br />

If the belt tension is not proper i.e. it gets deflected more than specified,<br />

get it attended to at the nearest Authorised Service outlet.<br />

Alternator<br />

Belt tension adjustment :<br />

a. Loosen bottom mounting bolt of the alternator.<br />

b. Loosen bolt holding upper mounting of alternator to the clamping<br />

piece.<br />

c. Loosen the lock nut.<br />

d. Adjust belt tension by turning the adjusting nut i.e. by turning<br />

the alternator away from the engine.<br />

e. Tighten lock nut and the bolt holding the clamping piece to<br />

alternator.<br />

f. Tighten bottom mounting bolt.<br />

g. Recheck belt tension.<br />
