The named contractor to whom the building permit is<br />
issued shall have the responsibility for supervision, direction,<br />
management and control <strong>of</strong> the construction activities<br />
on the project for which the building permit was<br />
issued.<br />
110.3.5.7 The building department may allow a special<br />
inspector to conduct the minimum structural inspection<br />
<strong>of</strong> threshold buildings required by this Code, Section<br />
553.73, Florida Statutes, without duplicative inspection<br />
by the building department. The Building Official is responsible<br />
for ensuring that any person conducting inspections<br />
is qualified as a building inspector under Part<br />
XII <strong>of</strong> Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, or certified as a<br />
special inspector under Chapter 471 or 481, Florida<br />
Statutes. Inspections <strong>of</strong> threshold buildings required by<br />
Section 553.79(5), Florida Statutes, are in addition to<br />
the minimum inspections required by this Code.<br />
110.3.6 Energy efficiency inspections. Reserved.<br />
110.3.7 Other Inspections:<br />
110.3.8 The Building Official may require Special Structural<br />
Inspections Section 110.10.<br />
110.4 Inspection requests. It shall be the duty <strong>of</strong> the holder <strong>of</strong><br />
the building permit or their duly authorized agent (person, firm<br />
or corporation performing the work) to notify the Building<br />
Official when work is ready for inspection. Failure to request<br />
such inspections constitutes a violation <strong>of</strong> this Code. The<br />
inspection request shall be made to the Building Department<br />
<strong>of</strong>fice at least one day prior to the required inspection and shall<br />
provide reasonable time for such inspections to be made.<br />
Inspections shall be made not later than the following workday<br />
after the day <strong>of</strong> the request for inspection when a request is made<br />
prior to 12:00 noon. Requests for inspections received after 12:00<br />
noon, shall be made not later than the day after the following<br />
workday.<br />
110.5 Construction inspected by the Building Department may<br />
be rejected or approval refused for reasons <strong>of</strong> incompleteness or<br />
code violation. The work shall be made to comply and the<br />
request for inspection repeated as outlined herein. It shall be<br />
assumed that the responsible individual or individuals in charge<br />
<strong>of</strong> the work shall have themselves inspected the work and found<br />
it to be in compliance with this Code and plans requirements<br />
before the request for inspection is made. It is the responsibility<br />
<strong>of</strong> the permit holder to insure that the job is accessible and means<br />
for inspections <strong>of</strong> such work that are required by this Code for all<br />
requested inspections. Failure to provide for this access shall<br />
constitute a violation <strong>of</strong> this Code.<br />
110.6 Examination <strong>of</strong> all structural, electrical, plumbing and<br />
mechanical items may be performed by Inspectors only when<br />
holding current certification in the respective disciplines issued<br />
by the BORA.<br />

110.7 The Inspector shall inspect all work for which a request for<br />
inspection is made and shall, after inspection, either approve by<br />
signing the appropriate sections <strong>of</strong> the building permit card or<br />
inspection record or disapprove the work and notify the permit<br />
holder <strong>of</strong> the discrepancies found and order corrections within a<br />
reasonable period <strong>of</strong> time. Violations and/or correction notices<br />
shall be written and posted at the job site stating the specific<br />
reference to the Code Section(s) that have been violated. Any<br />
person, firm or corporation who fails to correct defective work<br />
within ten days after having been duly notified <strong>of</strong> such defects<br />
shall not be issued any further permits by the Building Department.<br />
Permits will resume after the defects have been corrected,<br />
inspected and approved or upon the filing <strong>of</strong> an appeal with the<br />
BORA. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation,<br />
or their agents or employees, to cover or conceal any wiring for<br />
light, heat, power or low voltage systems until the appropriate<br />
Sections <strong>of</strong> the building permit card and/or inspection record are<br />
signed, signifying that the wiring has been inspected and<br />
approved.<br />
110.8 During such periods <strong>of</strong> time that an area or areas <strong>of</strong><br />
Broward County is deemed a Federal or State declared Disaster<br />
Area, building owners and/or their designated representatives<br />
may institute temporary repairs to their property, in order to<br />
restore the impermeability to the building envelope and/or to<br />
secure the property. Such repairs shall be temporary in nature, so<br />
as to minimize further damage to the property, and may be<br />
undertaken without repair permits and inspections by the local<br />
building department, as long as the damaged building components<br />
and their respective attachments are not permanently<br />
concealed.<br />
110.9 Approval required. No work shall be done on any part <strong>of</strong><br />
a building or structure or any, electrical, mechanical or plumbing<br />
installation beyond the point indicated herein above for each<br />
successive inspection until such inspection has been made and<br />
the work approved and the Inspector has so indicated on the<br />
permit card or an inspection record pad at the job site which has<br />
been approved by the Building Official.<br />
110.10 Special Building Inspector.<br />
110.10.1 The Building Official upon the recommendation <strong>of</strong><br />
the Chief Structural Inspector or upon the Building Official’s<br />
initiative may require the owner to employ a special<br />
inspector for the inspection <strong>of</strong> the structural framework, or<br />
any part there<strong>of</strong>, as herein required:<br />
110.10.1.1 Buildings or structures or part there<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> unusual<br />
size, height, design or method <strong>of</strong> construction and<br />
critical structural connections.<br />
1. Placement <strong>of</strong> Piling<br />
2. Windows, glass doors, external protection devices and<br />
curtain walls on buildings over two stories.<br />
3. The method or pace <strong>of</strong> construction requires continuous<br />
inspection.<br />
4. In the opinion <strong>of</strong> the Building Official, any other additional<br />
inspections that are required.<br />
