As the CARICOM member State with lead responsibility for Science and<br />
Technology, <strong>Grenada</strong> is committed to deliver demonstrable results in this<br />
area.<br />
We believe that appropriate investments in ICT infrastructure and<br />
e<strong>Government</strong> services are likely to result in hundreds <strong>of</strong> jobs. Moreover,<br />
it will create a platform for economic development, assist in the<br />
transformation <strong>of</strong> government, provide a vehicle for knowledge transfer<br />
and act as a catalyst for entrepreneurial activities.<br />
In <strong>2011</strong>, our priority ICT projects are:<br />
ICT Centre <strong>of</strong> Excellence and Innovation<br />
With assistance from the <strong>Government</strong> <strong>of</strong> India, this Centre will be launched<br />
in the first quarter <strong>of</strong> this year and will be housed at the GIDC’s Industrial<br />
Complex in Frequente.<br />
This Centre will be <strong>Grenada</strong>’s prime facility for advanced ICT training.<br />
Tutors from India will conduct classes with Grenadian counterparts<br />
and training will be <strong>of</strong>fered at Diploma level in areas such as IT Project<br />
Management, Information Technology, Java and Linux Programming.<br />
Our intention is to train sufficient Grenadians so that we can support and<br />
attract IT companies and develop a thriving IT sector capable <strong>of</strong> delivering<br />
good paying jobs especially for our youth.<br />
Increased Access to Tertiary Education<br />
<strong>Government</strong> in partnership with the Caribbean Knowledge and Learning<br />
Network (CKLN) has embarked on a project to increase access to tertiary<br />
education for the residents <strong>of</strong> St. Patrick’s and Carriacou.<br />
Under this project, CKLN will provide T.A Marryshow Community<br />
College (TAMCC) with connectivity between the Tanteen main campus,<br />
and its St. Patrick’s and Carriacou sites. Using this infrastructure as the<br />
foundation, CKLN will provide videoconferencing equipment to TAMCC<br />
that will facilitate the real-time delivery <strong>of</strong> course <strong>of</strong>ferings between<br />
