9. Creating training and educational opportunities for lifelong<br />
learning.<br />
5.12 HEALTH CARE<br />
The key priorities this year are:<br />
• Establish a patient relation/complaint unit at the General Hospital.<br />
• Review and update all health sector legislation e.g. Mental Health<br />
Act & Hospital Act.<br />
• Promote healthy lifestyle practices to delay the onset or reduce<br />
the incidence <strong>of</strong> Chronic Non Communicable Diseases such<br />
as diabetes, cancers and cardiovascular disease. School health<br />
programme.<br />
• Staff three medical stations in the parishes <strong>of</strong> St. Andrew’s, St.<br />
George’s and St. Patrick’s, with district medical <strong>of</strong>ficers services<br />
between the hours <strong>of</strong> 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday to Friday as a<br />
pilot project.<br />
• Ensure the availability <strong>of</strong> essential medicines and supplies .<br />
• Reduce the waiting time for care and services at the Accident<br />
& Emergency Department <strong>of</strong> the General Hospital and Princess<br />
Alice Hospital.<br />
• Implement an apprenticeship training programme in collaboration<br />
with Ministry <strong>of</strong> Youth Empowerment.<br />
• Train Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to support<br />
establishment <strong>of</strong> National Emergency Transportation<br />
(Ambulance) Services.<br />
• Establish MOU/agreements with overseas hospitals for the care<br />
and treatment <strong>of</strong> health conditions that are unavailable locally.<br />
• Promote partnership and collaboration with the private sector in<br />
the planning, provision <strong>of</strong> services.<br />
