This year, the priorities will be:<br />

1. Continuing quality infrastructure for increased access: A total <strong>of</strong><br />

approximately 15 schools have been identified, rehabilitation<br />

works will continue on a number <strong>of</strong> educational institutions<br />

including TAMCC.<br />

2. Preparing adolescents for newly generated employment through<br />

appropriate technologies: Provision <strong>of</strong> training resources and<br />

equipment for the development <strong>of</strong> technical education skills in<br />

primary, secondary and post secondary schools and greater access<br />

to tertiary education.<br />

3. Breaking the poverty cycle by building a strong foundation in<br />

early years and providing quality education at all levels: High<br />

Scope curriculum practices will be introduced in every preschool,<br />

mechanisms will be put in place to improve the learning<br />

environment and student motivation.<br />

4. Ready for school, Getting to school and Participating in school:<br />

Under this theme the Ministry will implement measures to<br />

strengthen safety-net measures such as transportation, school<br />

meals, school uniform and examination fees for needy students.<br />

5. Improving student performance for gainful employment: This<br />

involves the implementation <strong>of</strong> the curriculum to parallel the world<br />

<strong>of</strong> work and establishing a National primary exit competencybased<br />

exam.<br />

6. Continued access for vulnerable and at risk students through a<br />

Time Out Academy; provisions for special needs, expansion<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Programme for Adolescence Mothers, Prison Education<br />

Programme, Adult Literacy Programme.<br />

7. Effective school management and succession through mentorship<br />

programme for aspiring principals, training for principals and<br />

teachers.<br />

8. Work-study education programmes at recognized institutions,<br />

such as TAMCC, UWI Online Degree Programmes and St.<br />

George’s University Degree in Primary Education.<br />
