401 SUPPORTIVE SERVICES<br />
<strong>The</strong> facility must provide, as part of services included in <strong>the</strong> basic daily rate or monthly charge, supportive<br />
services appropriate to maintain <strong>and</strong> promote <strong>the</strong> well-being of each resident. <strong>The</strong> facility must encourage <strong>and</strong><br />
permit <strong>the</strong> resident to maintain <strong>and</strong> develop skills that enable <strong>the</strong> resident to function self-sufficiently <strong>and</strong><br />
independently.<br />
Supportive services shall be defined as giving occasional or intermittent guidance, direction or monitoring of an<br />
individual resident as he/she carries out activities of daily living <strong>and</strong> social activities. Supportive services do<br />
not include monitoring or delivery of physical assistance to a resident delivered in accordance with a physician's<br />
order.<br />
400.1 <strong>The</strong> facility must provide supportive services within <strong>the</strong> basic charge that assure <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong>;<br />
a. Residents keep appointments <strong>for</strong> mental <strong>and</strong> medical services;<br />
b. Staff are aware of <strong>the</strong> resident's general whereabouts even though he/she may travel<br />
independently about <strong>the</strong> community;<br />
c. <strong>The</strong> appropriate agencies <strong>and</strong>/or health professional are notified when:<br />
1. <strong>The</strong> resident has had a major change in status;<br />
2. <strong>The</strong> resident is absent from <strong>the</strong> facility <strong>and</strong> his/her whereabouts are not known;<br />
<strong>and</strong><br />
3. An emergency situation arises concerning <strong>the</strong> facility.<br />
d. Residents are treated with kindness <strong>and</strong> consideration at all times <strong>and</strong> are not abused,<br />
neglected or exploited in any manner;<br />
e. Residents are dressed appropriately <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> activities in which residents are engaged <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> wea<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
f. Residents are encouraged to participate in social, recreational, vocational <strong>and</strong> religious<br />
activities within <strong>the</strong> community <strong>and</strong> facility;<br />
g. Residents are encouraged <strong>and</strong> permitted, if capable, to per<strong>for</strong>m personal hygiene<br />
activities including, at a minimum:<br />
1. A tub bath or shower as desired or required;<br />
2. Daily oral hygiene <strong>and</strong> shaving if desired or requested by <strong>the</strong> resident;<br />
3. Trimming <strong>and</strong> shaping of fingernails <strong>and</strong> toenails unless prohibited by <strong>the</strong><br />
resident's attending physician.<br />
