703 FURNISHINGS AND EQUIPMENT<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>following</strong> are general provisions concerning furnishings <strong>and</strong> equipment that each residential long term care<br />

facility must meet:<br />

1 All rooms, including bedrooms, must have working light switches at <strong>the</strong> entrance to <strong>the</strong> room.<br />

2 Windows must be kept clean <strong>and</strong> in good repair <strong>and</strong> supplied with curtains, shades or drapes.<br />

Each operable window shall have a screen which is clean <strong>and</strong> in good repair.<br />

3 Light fixtures in resident use areas must be equipped with covers to prevent glare <strong>and</strong> hazards to<br />

<strong>the</strong> residents.<br />

4 All fans located within seven (7) feet of <strong>the</strong> floor must be protected by screen guards.<br />

5. Dining room space <strong>and</strong> furnishings in good repair must be provided <strong>for</strong> each resident in <strong>the</strong><br />

facility. Dining room space <strong>and</strong> furnishings must be sufficient to serve <strong>the</strong> residents in no more<br />

than two (2) shifts.<br />

6. All facilities must have at least one (1) telephone available <strong>for</strong> outside calls <strong>for</strong> every <strong>for</strong>ty (40)<br />

residents.<br />

7. All furnishings <strong>and</strong> equipment must be durable, clean <strong>and</strong> appropriate to its functions.<br />

8. All areas of a facility must be well lighted to ensure resident's safety.<br />

9. <strong>The</strong> facility must provide <strong>and</strong> maintain draperies, equipment <strong>and</strong> furniture in good condition.<br />

10. Residents may provide <strong>the</strong>ir own linens, but may not be required by <strong>the</strong> facility to do so. <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>following</strong> minimum amounts of linen must be available in <strong>the</strong> facility at all times:<br />

b. Sheets - two (2) times <strong>the</strong> facility's census;<br />

c. Pillow cases - two (2) times <strong>the</strong> facility's census;<br />

d. Bath towels - two (2) times <strong>the</strong> facility's census;<br />

e. H<strong>and</strong> towels - two (2) times <strong>the</strong> facility's census;<br />

f. Washcloths - two (2) times <strong>the</strong> facility's census;<br />

g. Blankets - one (1) <strong>for</strong> each resident;<br />

h. Pillows - one (1) per resident.<br />
