603.3 If medications are prescribed to be taken as needed (PRN) by <strong>the</strong> resident, documentation in <strong>the</strong><br />

resident's file should list <strong>the</strong> medication <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> date <strong>and</strong> time received by <strong>the</strong> resident.<br />

700 PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT<br />

701 LAUNDRY SERVICES<br />

701.1 Each residential long term care facility must provide laundry facilities or services to its residents.<br />

701.2 Each residential long term care facility must meet <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> laundry service requirements:<br />

a. In-house laundries must be located in areas separate from kitchen, bathroom <strong>and</strong><br />

bedroom areas. Facilities licensed prior to <strong>the</strong> effective date of <strong>the</strong>se <strong>regulations</strong> shall not<br />

be required to satisfy this regulation except to <strong>the</strong> extent that <strong>the</strong> facility may be altered,<br />

modified or amended subsequent to <strong>the</strong> effective date of <strong>the</strong>se <strong>regulations</strong>.<br />

b. Facilities with in-house laundries must have a washer <strong>and</strong> dryer of adequate size to serve<br />

<strong>the</strong> needs of <strong>the</strong> facility;<br />

c. Laundry dryers must be properly vented to <strong>the</strong> outside;<br />

d. <strong>The</strong> laundry room must be cleaned on a daily basis to prevent lint accumulation <strong>and</strong> to<br />

remove clutter;<br />

e. Portable electric heaters <strong>and</strong>/or stoves must not be used in <strong>the</strong> laundry area;<br />

f. <strong>The</strong> laundry room must be well-lighted <strong>and</strong> vented to <strong>the</strong> outside by ei<strong>the</strong>r power vents,<br />

gravity vents or by outside windows;<br />

g. Resident's clothing, kitchen linens <strong>and</strong> bed linens shall be washed separately. If linens,<br />

including washable blankets, are not washed at a minimum temperature of 150 degrees<br />

Fahrenheit, a disinfecting agent must be used.<br />

h. <strong>The</strong> facility shall be responsible <strong>for</strong> providing laundry services on all linens <strong>and</strong> supplies<br />

owned by <strong>the</strong> facility as part of <strong>the</strong> services required under <strong>the</strong> basic charge. Residents<br />

shall be responsible <strong>for</strong> laundering personal items with supportive services as needed.<br />

<strong>The</strong> facility must provide reasonable access to <strong>the</strong> laundry room <strong>for</strong> this purpose. If a<br />

resident is incapable of per<strong>for</strong>ming this task independently, <strong>the</strong> facility may levy an<br />

additional charge.<br />

702 HOUSEKEEPING/MAINTENANCE<br />

702.1 Each residential long term care facility must establish <strong>and</strong> conduct a housekeeping <strong>and</strong><br />

maintenance program to ensure <strong>the</strong> continued maintenance of <strong>the</strong> facility, to promote good<br />

housekeeping procedures <strong>and</strong> ensure sanitary practices throughout <strong>the</strong> facility.<br />
