h. Residents are not routinely confined to <strong>the</strong>ir room or bed except as necessary <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

treatment of a routine short term illness;<br />

i. Residents are not restrained nor locked in <strong>the</strong>ir rooms.<br />

402 ACTIVITIES AND SOCIALIZATION<br />

403.1 Each facility must provide, as part of services <strong>and</strong> accommodation included in <strong>the</strong> basic rate, an<br />

organized program of individual <strong>and</strong> group activities appropriate to individual resident needs,<br />

interests <strong>and</strong> wishes.<br />

403.2 At a minimum, <strong>the</strong> facility must provide:<br />

a. Accommodations, equipment <strong>and</strong> supplies <strong>for</strong> recreation <strong>and</strong> socialization services;<br />

b. Group recreation <strong>and</strong> socialization services.<br />

403 PROFESSIONAL SERVICES<br />

403.1 <strong>The</strong> resident shall be assisted in making arrangements to secure all community based health or<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r professional services, examinations <strong>and</strong> reports needed to maintain <strong>and</strong>/or document <strong>the</strong><br />

maintenance of <strong>the</strong> resident's health, safety <strong>and</strong> welfare.<br />

403.2 <strong>The</strong> facility must document that each resident has a physician of his/her choice who is reponsible<br />

<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> overall management of <strong>the</strong> individual's health.<br />

403.3 <strong>The</strong> facility must have written emergency medical policy <strong>and</strong> procedures that shall include, at a<br />

minimum, <strong>the</strong> requirement that in <strong>the</strong> event of a resident's illness or accident, <strong>the</strong> facility shall:<br />

a. Notify <strong>the</strong> resident's responsible party, next of kin <strong>and</strong> personal physician, or in <strong>the</strong> event<br />

such physician is not available, a qualified alternate;<br />

b. Take immediate <strong>and</strong> appropriate steps to see that <strong>the</strong> resident receives necessary medical<br />

attention including transfer to an appropriate medical facility, if necessary, though an<br />

additional charge may be levied <strong>for</strong> transportation;<br />

c. Make a notation of <strong>the</strong> illness or accident in <strong>the</strong> resident's personal record.<br />

403.4 Each resident shall be assisted as part of <strong>the</strong> basic charge in arranging regular <strong>and</strong> emergency<br />

dental services.<br />

403.5 Each resident shall be assisted as part of <strong>the</strong> basic charge in arranging <strong>for</strong> necessary foot care.<br />

403.6 Residents shall be assisted as part of <strong>the</strong> basic charge in arranging o<strong>the</strong>r routine or special<br />

services, as <strong>the</strong>ir needs may require, <strong>for</strong> eye examinations, eye glasses, auditory testing <strong>and</strong><br />

hearing aids.<br />
